Nachtalb Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 I haven't been on here for a while while, and now, reinstalling some Skyrim Mods, every third or so mod is now on subscribestar? And, on top of that, that site requires ID? What did I miss? Why did people move over there??

If you live in the United Kingdom you'll now be noticing the effects of the Online Safety Bill (OSB) Act as residents need to prove they are 18+ to access the restricted content. Also events have occurred in the past and policies on a mod hosting site changed causing events in the mod community to really reach an uproar, thus mod authors scattered from that site. There's been authors that scattered from that site a proportion of which have since come back to the site, however others haven't, and some just stopped creating and/or sharing mods. The way its done requires an account which then gets your ID (or proof of age) attestation attached, so that the restricted content can be accessed. Edited October 4, 2025 by Leoosp

Not that I am aware of - especially not with a age restriction of 23. 3 hours ago, Demonwise said: VPN Did.. did you read any of what I wrote? I don't need to know how to access the site, I want to know what on earth is going on. Besides, a VPN doesn't change that I am in a country that should be able to access it.

Yeeeees I did read what you wrote. The reality is that where you are (somewhere in Germany) is requiring you to use an id. Knowing why won't fix that fact although there is no issue with finding out why. However, if you don't want to have to use an id then you need to use a vpn. That's why I suggested it. Of course if you already have a vpn, great. 2

There's a big push in the west to get age verification going on the internet right now, and in the EU specifically they're looking into Pornhub and other porn sites for failing to protect minors as well as suggesting(threatening?) sites get age verification running before they're forced to. So maybe Subscribestar is scared and trying to get ahead of things. As for the 23 thing, that's weird. Does it still say you need to be 23 if you click signup? Maybe they're trying to get people outraged and to fight back against all this onerous verification stuff. Source.
