Back2friday Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Hello, recently i noticed that Ralof's script breaks. Im talking about his path where you can follow him to Riverwood afer Helgen. After defeating the wolves, Ralof stop running and the script breaks. Meaning the conversation with Gerdur does not happen and i can not get the house key. Im also using Live Another Life aswell. I also tried teleporting to Riverwood after activating one of the guardian stones. Sometimes it works where i just have to wait a small minute and Ralof comes running and the script continue and i get the house key after the conversation. But most the time it does not work. Ralof either be stuck at the guardian stones or he just walks to Riverwood and its script stopped working. I have no idea what is causing this. I have no conflicts with LAL's scripts mentioned on its description mod page. No scripted mods that edits Ralof besides armor. Everything is nice green/yellow on 0004E50D I also dont seem to have a mod that has the QF_MQ102_0004E50D.pex. I tried a search in my mods folder. Nothing. I played this quest maybe 10 years ago once or twice the way "Bugdesta" intended. But if you use LAL, you can shorten the whole thing... after I've been to Helgen -> go directly to Riverwood - and usually the blacksmith is the first thing I come across (so I don't enter the cave!). Through the conversation, I get my assignment to go to the Jarl in Whiterun and report what happened with the dragon. Ultimately, you can even travel directly from Helgen to Whiterun - fast travel also takes you through the city gate... after entering the palace, the scene in front of the throne with the Jarl is triggered.

You need key from Gerdur to have access to free bed and provisions. You won't get one from the blacksmith if you save Ralof but not Hadvar. Which is totally understandable. One problem with just ignoring this is that if the quest is not advancing properly because the Papyrus engine is absolutely destroyed, then nothing else in the game will function properly either. Another problem is if there's another mod doing something to actors (like giving them overriding packages) then it's only a matter of time before another quest breaks because of another confused/broken NPC. Still waiting for that quest stage number from @Back2friday.

As for the stage number i have to get back to you another day. But i can tell you where it happens. The moment the scripts breaks is when you fought the few wolves after the guardian stones. Then when you run a bit further Ralof says something then from that moment before the turn to right to the gate he stops running and starts walking (script breaks here)

Do you have VSMO by any chance? Or any mod that changes scripts. The issue may be related to one I encountered when making that.
