Dear users,

The pictures show that something is wrong.

Is this a clipping error? If not, what is it?

It doesn't cause a crash... it's temporary.

If I load a save game, it may or may not occur.

If I change cells in the game, it may or may not occur.

For whom does it occur? -> exclusively for the companion "Serana"

At first, I assumed it was related to her outfit... then it turned out that this problem also occurs with other outfits... but that doesn't occur with other companions (including female vampires).

When it happened during a sex scene... after the scene ended, it was gone.

I use some mods that change the appearance of vampires... my own character is currently one himself - and has already started as a Vampire Lord through LAL.

The background is a test run for a mod that allows the character to have a human appearance in "Lord" form... which, after some initial problems with my avatar, works well.

Because of the LAL start, I traveled to the Vampire Castle quite late in the game... the entire part with the Crypt Cave is skipped.

That's why I only met Serana AFTER the Blood Chalice (Redwater Spring) quest... since then, I've been bothered by this bug - which sometimes doesn't occur once in a multi-hour playthrough.

I had already completely cleared this location to test a companion mod from one of our LL mod authors (which places two female vampires in the final grotto at the source).

I can only assume at this point that one of my installed mods for "customizing" the vampires -> "runs amok"

1st Candidate (Human Vampire Lords) -> https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/87166?tab=description

(I installed the package for the NPC shortly before reaching the castle)

2nd Candidate (Vampires have claws) -> https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/87746

(in some scenes the center of the "shadows" seems to emanate from the hands)

3rd Candidate (Dynamic Vampire Adaptation) -> https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/96817

I would be grateful if I knew where to look more closely.

I am currently upgrading my Skyrim from 1.5.97 to 1.6.1170 - and am (loosely) following the guide here in the forum

Whenever you see a Bethesda hedgehog like this, the first thing you do is make sure you're playing Skyrim; where such a thing is quite normal (and its usually not an indicator of your GPU dying). The second thing you do is disable SMP and CBPC and test again.

I deactivated smp (faster smp) via mcm - but did not get a visible solution

Remove the dll. As far as I know there's no way to disable SMP (nor CBPC) from within the game. The best you can do is pause them. Most likely what the MCM option does is remove the collision armor from your character.

The first thing *I* do when I encounter this sort of artifact, is to close the game and then reopen it. Sometimes, (no, I have no idea why, and I usually don' care about the string theory atomic level reason that lurks deep behind it) sometimes the game doesn't start up correctly and leaves the visuals in an unstable condition. USUALLY, a restart fixes it. If it doesn't, only then will I progress further by uninstalling recent mods that may have been (more often than not *were*) the source of the issue.

TBH, I got tired of chasing Skyrim rabbit holes a long time ago. I installed Skyrim to play the game, not to debug it, so I generally look for the most efficacious solution that keeps me playing Skyrim, instead of playing amateur debugger.

if it only affects one set of gear, I generally either re-build  that piece of gear, or if that doesn't work, I abandon it, since many armor clothing pieces were poorly coded, and again, I installed Skyrim to play, not to play amateur debugger.
