Mods placement

OK, so do the mods go into the Skyrim data folder?  I am unsure (after a few video tutorials) where they go.  Am I doing it wrong?  I only have the ussep, sketch, alternate live star, and skyui so far.  But they are all in my Skyrim Data folder.  I want to make sure this is correct before I do any more mods.  Everything is working fine so far.  I just don't want to make an error that puts me back at step one.  I'm using MO 2 by the way.

Then you install the mods using MO2. MO2 will install them correctly assuming you know how to use it correctly which doesn't seem to be the case if the mods are in your Data folder.
