Anyone have trouble with Helgen Reborn?

Helgen Reborn is very popular, but it hasn't been updated since 2013. I couldn't get it to start, so I reloaded it. HR then started instantly, but PAH stopped working. Oops! I reloaded PAH, and then my saves wouldn't load at all (not even the old ones).  I tried re-reloading HR, but that didn't help. So, it looks like my only remaining option is to start over, but there is no guarantee the whole thing won't happen again when I do.

2013? Are you using the correct version?

Oops, I should have said 2016. Yeah, I have the latest version, which is still nine years old.

Since I have to start over anyway, I might as well overhaul the graphics. Lots of different packages out there. Anyone have a suggestion?
