suchthyme Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 So I was told in the Steam forums that this place has some experienced modders who are really nice and might be able to help me as a newbie to this! I'm just about finished making this massive text mod, but the final hurdle is that I just cannot get it to work when I test in game. The changed text should be apparent straight from the mirror/character creator opening scene. This is everything I've made for the mod: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14vkBwUm-5SwlWhKJr-yZimWni2xLDO1r/view?usp=sharing Like I suggested earlier, I'm doing this for the first time and I've always been a console gamer, so I'm not familiar with PC gaming intricacies in general. In other words, this might be something obvious that I'm missing, or it might be something catastrophic that I've done wrong that I just haven't realised was a problem. Hopefully it's the first, but in any case, I'm giving myself a headache trying to figure it out. I have the mod installed, as far as I can tell, correctly (files in the data folder, .ini files set up to allow mods, etc.) My game runs fine in vanilla mode so it's something with the mod that is breaking it. Specifically when I try to launch the game, 95% of the time it just...doesn't run. The new window opens that should be running the game, but it just stays solid black and doesn't respond. I end up having to use task manager to force close it. I've occasionally managed to get it to run by poking about with this and that but then the mod doesn't work and it's just vanilla dialogue. I'm happy to give any other info if necessary. Thanks so much in advance for any help.

It would be a help to post which version of the game you are using, NG or pre NG, and the version number, which mod manager. I am no Mod Maker, those guys are in a different zone as far as I am concerned, (way smarter than me), so maybe this suggestion will help get you some taction here. Best of Luck. @JB. Thank you for replying! I downloaded the game post NG update, but I've used the Fallout 4 Downgrader from Nexus to get rid of it. I'm not using a mod manager right now since I have no other mods except this one that I'm working with.

Ok that is a problem, You need a Mod manager, I use Vortex, pretty easy for beginners, some prefer another, (I am not starting a mm war here everyone) next comes F4SE, https://f4se.silverlock.org/ , then any mod you will need goes into the mod manager which puts it in the game. This is why you are not able to load the game afer you put your mod in what I assume is the data file for fallout 4. I would uninstall the whole game, using steam, if that is where you got it, download a fresh game, back up the game, re downgrade, find the game version in the fallout 4 launcher, F4 icon then properties, then select the F4SE version that matches the game version, this vid explains how to properly install F4SE, it talks about Skyrim but the procedure is the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdtf0LwWHvk Watch it and follow the step by step instructions for a successful install. As far as your mod, I have no idea if it will work, did you use the Creation Kit to make it? Best of Luck to you, oh and put your comment below the spoiler so it is easily found. izzyknows Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 Just tried your mod and it worked fine.. weird.. but it works fine on pre NG. But, if you used a post NG version of the CK, you'll probably need to edit the ba2's to make them work with pre NG. There's a ba2 patcher tool on Nexus that will do it for you. Very simple and super easy. I also use one that works on game load, in case I forget to to fix one. 1
suchthyme Posted June 9, 2025 Author Posted June 9, 2025 Thank you to both of you for your comments, I'm going to work on doing what you guys suggested and I'll come back when I've got something. It's night where I am so it'll be a while but I'll update some time in near future. 1

suchthyme Posted June 12, 2025 Author Posted June 12, 2025 So I promised an update! Using the advice from here and some other forums, I managed to get the mod partially working. The subtitles work now, but I still can't get the voice lines to play. I can upload a new version of the zip file is anyone wants to take a look at it. I've tried both ba2s (made to work with pre-NG) and loose files for the sounds.

Maybe text, maybe video, I wonder how many will download blind and try it not knowing what it does. Good Luck to you.

This is a badly translated mod, there's a bunch of playthroughs of badly translated mods on Twitch and Youtube for several games. I specifically was inspired by the Skyrim badly translated mod with this one. I'm going to make more stuff like a comprehensive description, etc. once I get this up on Nexus. I did manage to brute force this to work with some not-so-nice techniques (mostly just literally replacing the voice files in the game's vanilla .ba2 files) Not ideal, but it will work on my end. I just have to make sure I package the files in a way that others can access them in a more elegant way, so I'm still asking around about that.
