spetsnasty Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Greeting to one and all. Firstly what a fantastic site! I was gifted Skyrim, and having played for ages, began to feel that while a superb game. it needed a more adult approach, then I discovered likeminded folks. Im awestruck at the sheer volume of mods for this game, and so to point..... I think I've got and installed everything I need to get up and running...well except one. FNIS 4.1.1 Now I know I,ve seen a thread for this, but can't find it again. I don't think I'll even get off the blocks without this? and I WON'T go to nexus for it on principle! It states a free to join site, then demands a fee(Not playing fair) and i hear bad things about them I'm in need of an act of charity, could somebody please supply me with a link to somewhere other than Nexus hold this file for download? While begging...................... is there anything else i should need or know? many thanks up front.
gvman3670 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 As far as I know FNIS is only available on the Nexus. I'd suggest getting it (manual download) and hanging on to a copy, but it also gets updated on a fairly regular basis so you'd still need to get the new versions from Nexus unfortunately. You're right that you won't get off the ground without it. And remember to go into Skyrim/data/tools and run the FNIS executable (for users) to generate behaviors every single time you add or remove a mod that changes/adds animations. And never try using NMM to install these LL mods. They're best installed manually (and that's quicker and easier than with a mod manager anyway, except when deleting). Also, be sure to use the LATEST versions of all these mods to avoid as many issues as possible.
srayesmanll Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Nexus does not require a fee of any kind. Period. If you want access to the premium servers or you want a faster download, you can become a supporter or premium member, but again, it is NOT required. It is free. Join, skim the mods you want, then leave. If your worried about "stories you've heard about Nexus", just remember: Don't make comments on mods unless it is just a thank you. If you do make comments, avoid the following words: sucks, crap, bullshit, asshole, jerk, hello, fuck, worst, piece, junk, etc. Just get the mods you want, then leave. It's that simple. And again, there is no fee for joining. By refusing to go to Nexus, you are only hurting yourself by missing out on some great mods (like FNIS, without which you can pretty much kiss any chance of using new animations goodbye...)
nutluck Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Yes you need FNIS to use any mods here, Along with a few others like skse. As others have said Nexus is completely free to get mods from. If you pay you get better speeds and other stuff but all the mods can be gotten for free. i also strongly strongly urge you to go to nexus and download the nexus mod manager, it makes installing mods even from here a LOT easier and well worth the time and effort to learn how to use it. As for a link to it on another site, I am not aware of one personally.
terson29 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Your essentials are SKSE, SkyUI and FNIS. The last two you can get from Nexus only, AFAIK. No need for premium - speed is rather decent - up to 1 Mb/s, depending on phase of the Moon and weather on Mars. Nexus usage instruction: 1. Find a mod you like. 2. Grab it. 3. Leave Reason - their moderators are dumbskull assholes. Even constructive criticism can lead to permaban. And under no circumstances mention LoversLab there. Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) is a decent mod manager for a start. Must have for beginner. Nexus exclusive, of course. As for modding - do not install/uninstall mods in the middle of playthrough. Also, try not to add to many mods. Skyrim is not a stablest game in the world, and heavily modded Skyrim can be a pain if done incorrectly. Plan a list of mods before your new playthrough. It will take some time, but it will spare you some grief.
