Question: Deleting ALL data?

I've tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling, using mod managers to remove mods, even wiping my entire hard-drive, but bits of data are still messing with my Skyrim experience.  For instance, I still have extended eye color options, despite no longer having that mod installed.  This isn't BAD, but I have a feeling that most of the glitches I've been getting are a result of excess data.  I mean, when I run FNIS, despite having removed all the mods, it tells me I've got over a hundred custom animations!  Is there a way to wipe the slate COMPLETELY clean?  I don't even care about old save files, I'll be happy to see them go, especially if it means I can tackle Skyrim anew!

To do a complete wipe you need to go to the game folder and wipe everything out leave no folder or file in it then go to steam and uninstall then re install when you uninstall it steam only removes so much whatever is left over is what you installed into the game and steam doesn't remove those. Also go to the mod managers folder and delete whatever is in there minus the rar files as it may of saved things in there when installing the mods.

best way to do it is delete everything in the data folder but the base bsas and esms, then go to steam and refresh your local cache.

that is exactly how i cleared my game out for a reinstall.  well i saved all the armor and clothing stuff i wanted since it took a while to get it how i liked but then replaced all my main mods.

since the files outside of the base bsas are small it shouldn't take long to replace them.  also remember to clean them with tesvedit, since they will be the uncleaned versions, of course you could save the esms somewhere just in case.

refeshing the local cache will make steam check the file to see if it matches the one on their server and a cleaned esm doesn't match so you will have to fix it each time.

believe me i've done that a few times.

this is a better way to clean the game since you don't need to download huge files.

since the only thing in the date folder other than the vanilla game files it shouldn't take long to get the rest of the files the base game needs to run.

This will probably seem like a dumb question, but what's that about refreshing my cache?  I'm not really sure what that even MEANS! ^_^;

nah you really don't need to, you just need to delete everything in the data folder that isn't a base bsa or esm.

there really isn't much in the data folder when you start fresh, so all you need to do is check your local cache and that redownloads anything that doesn't match the file checksum on the server.

which means you have to clean the dlc esms and rerun the launcher if you want boss to work.

that means it will overwrite your skyrim/pref ini so i'd set those as readonly so the game can't replace them.

oh sorry, it's become such a common practice for me i forgot that a lot people haven't done it.

go to your library on steam and right click skyrim, when the menu pops up move down to properties.  go to the third panel on that window, local files. click verify integrity of game cache.  it should pop up a window that scans the game folder.

if you do what i suggested it will download all the files that the base game needs that aren't bsas or esms.

Well I never clean anything I generally don't use ones that need to be cleaned to begin with less things to worry about and dlc's that are dirty I never turn them on I have all the dlc's for oblivion that came with the game they were on 1 time till I saw they were dirtier then most modders mods that have a dirty mod are and now only shivering isles gets turned so for me wiping everything out doesn't matter much to me and it doesn't take me that long to download it back onto the computer.

Followed all those instructions, validating now.  Should I uninstall and reinstall afterwards?

no, the point of doing all that is to not have to waste time regetting the game.

since the issue isn't the functioning of the game but trying to get your mods working, there is no point in messing with reinstalling.

when you refresh the cache, it will check if the download on your pc matches the one they have and then it will download replacements.
