Devious Devices: quick way to solve device slot conflict

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi all,

With devious devices, how is it possible to equip 2 items on slot 49?
I have DD chastity belt (#49) and an item from another armor mod (a skirt, also #49), but the chastity belt seems to override the latter (and I understand why). I'm not talking about appearance, I'm talking about equipment.

I'm wondering if there is a simple way to have both equipped.

I have read the related forum topics but I don't understand whether there is hack or not with Devices Underneath - I'm not a modder but thanks to this forum I've managed to make my 200 mods work fine.

Thanks in advance if anybody has an input about slot #49!

Change the equipment slot on the skirt from 49 to something else. Ideally that something else shouldn't conflict with other apparel. 40 is a good slot for skirts. For example, I convert all skirts from mods I use to this slot for my private use.

Requires you to know how to use NifScope and xEdit. There is no "quick" solution.

Thank you so much!
I have used Nifscope only once, can you tell me a bit more what to do exactly to change the slot to 40?

See below: I've loaded the nif mesh into the software but don't see the body slot.

Edit: I'm going to try this method with Nifscope. Will confirm if it works. Thanks again!

Hey @belegost thanks again for sharing this.
Was wondering: is it relatively easy to batch process this method you shared? I would like to do it for underwear (slot 52), so they can coexist with armor (slot 32).

nothing crazy: just to have both equipped.

If I understand correctly, you just need to convert the block to NiSkinInstance in Nifscope, no need to do stuff in xedit?

Edit:
OK it appears to be caused by The New Gentleman, which I'm using, although it doesn't make much sense that it applies to females.

Well explained here

Apparently this is a fix, but it seems to require 1 file per piece of armor..Might try it later.

You need both.

Converting to NiSkinInstance makes it so you don't have to edit meshes every single time you want to change slots in xEdit. It saves you one step if you want to flip them around later on. The slots are controlled through xEdit, both ARMA and ARMO have to match.

Example:

A top apparel that covers whole arms. Both ARMA and ARMO have to be slot 32 in order to see it.  However, you can add additional slots in ARMA, if you specifically want this piece of apparel to mask other pieces. Adding slot 34 to ARMA will make it so forearm pieces can't be seen while this apparel is worn.

The main slot will still be 32 (body) as defined in ARMO, but it will also mask slot 34. There's a lot combinations that can be done with it.

E.g. in vanilla game hoods block wearing circlets. That's because they are slot 30 (head), but ARMA also has slot 42 added (circlet). Removing slot 42 from ARMA, while leaving slot 30, allows you to wear circlets with hood.  You still need to edit the mesh though and either remove 42 partition or just convert to NiSkinInstance.

Note, that if you use 3BA or BHUNP or a similar body type (TBD, UBE) and build apparel in BodySlide, you need to edit the output meshes, after you build them, both _0.nif and _1.nif, and the edits have to match. You will lose the edits if you build them again. So build first, make sure everything's okay, then edit.

Here's a cheat sheet I have made for myself, that takes Devious Devices into account. I edit every apparel mod as needed, to conform to this. It allows for consistency within my load order.

Answering your question: no.

I don't know any method of automating slot flipping in xEdit. There are tools to automate adding/removing/replacing keywords but this shit has to be done manually.

But if you find one, I'll be glad to learn of it.

Hey there @belegost, such a tool exists.

Bonus: it works in game!!

Totally crazy, you can switch armor slots in game now.

Enjoy
