Of all the modders out there, you chose to call the one offering the most reasonable deal "scummy" while ignoring the ones charging $10 per mod? That just doesn’t make sense. Honestly, his Rebirth mods alone are worth more than the price, yet instead of recognizing that, some of you would rather tear down modders.

It's not about how much of a bargain it is. It's about the bait and switch.

 

I subscribe to a modder for a different game who only gives you the new mods that came out in months where you subscribed. I don't have a problem with that, because it's what he advertised. But if you entice someone to subscribe with a promise you don't plan to deliver on, that's shitty, no matter how good the deal is otherwise.

There has been no precedent set fully legally in court, but that's actually because most developers know they'd lose. Copyright law is in itself basically case-by-case, but the way modding generally works is free use especially if it's free and you're not making money off of it.

 

That's why even companies that hate modding rarely waste their time trying to do anything legally about it; because it'd be near impossible. It would, however, be FAR easier if you were charging for mods.

 

Secondly, when you do see cases of legal pressure, it is usually more a case of wielding financial burden to get modders to back off on their own and not an actual situation where the devs/publishers could win a case.

 

Modifying your own game for personal use is completely legal. They would have to prove it somehow hurts sales of their product or otherwise infringes on their IP in a commercial sense, and good luck with that. This is why fan fiction is as old as time and has never been challenged. It's someone doing personal work for free using another IP while never claiming the IP is theirs or the work is official.

 

I'd be hard pressed to imagine any judge not just laughing prosecuting lawyers out of court as even with the least charitable interpretation it's pretty comfortably within fair use.

To be honest I want a version could use nude Scarlet to replace Tifa, I tried the Scarlet(Original Dress) replace Tifa mod from Nexus while installing the nude Scarlet mod, but the texture goes wrong.

On a lighter note, the Eternal Dilemma: Tifa or Aerith?

 

I couldn't make up my mind as to who I like more when I first played the original Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation all those years ago, and I'm having the exact same problem now! 🤣

Aerith is from Irastris (paid mod through Cubebrush), and Tifa is from SweetFluff3D (free on Nexus).

 

I really love SweetFluff3D's "Nude Natural" series and have been using them on all games he's made them for (FF7 Remake, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Dragon's Dogma 2). Wish he would make an Aerith version.

Hey, let people create whatever weird stuff they want.  No need to download it if you don't like it.  Now you kind of make me want someone to do something silly like replace Tifa with a giant Charmander following you around.
