Updating a patch to apply to the newer version of a mod

Hi all....As the title says, i am trying to update a patch to apply to a newer version of the mod, so i can use it instea of an older one. But i have no idea what should i do...will it be enough to recompile it? Also, how do i do it? lol

For the record, i think i just have to update the version of the esp
