Says so in bold red letters at the top of the first post. With a link to a newer version of it. There's also a pinned thread in this very forum section with links to several guides.

Best of lucks.

so for Skyrim Script Extender when copying the contents of the folder over to my game folder, do I also bring the Data folder over?

Keep reading? The instructions also cover what to do with the files from that Data folder.

at this point I'm expecting to hear that there is either 1) a SKSE version issue as they actually have AE or GOG rather than 1.5.97 SE, or 2) there are all sorts of CTD as address library/papyrus/po3 as they downloaded the latest versions and expect it to work with 1.5.97.

so let's check - when you are playing skyrim, what version number does it report on the system page inside the skyrim menu? there should be a number, between 1.5.97 and 1.6.1179 at the bottom left.

further, do you have USSEP and Alternate Start - live another life, to get quickly to a new game without going through helgen? Are you intending to load all f the mods, and see what happens, or load a few mods at a time and test with a new game each time?

also could I skip out on all the graphics mods? Not really concerned about making my game look that high quality. don't mind the graphics.

Mods are labeled as required or optional and a short explanation is given as to why you'd want to install them. If by graphical mods you mean things like ENB or Reshade then yes, these are absolutely optional additions which is why that entire step is labeled as optional. If on the other hand you mean body replacers and textures then you might want to re-read that part. Skyrim needs nude models for bodies if you want SL animations to make sense.

i just put the files in my folder instead of installing them to MO2

If you're not following the guide you can do whatever you want. Installing directly in the game folder should work, that's not how the guide covers that part. In future reinstalls of SKSE or other files you may need to manually delete stuff you could've just let MO2 manage from the start.

Best of lucks.
