BearyBry Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I've put this on the EA help board as well, but thought I'd try here as well for any other insight/advice: Yesterday morning (December 22) I played TS4 as normal, finished off the cosy reward thing and then started building a new residential rental duplex, before having to close up and get some things done. Went back in the evening to work on my new build, tried to launch the game when a pop up said I had to run a repair, which I did. The repair never completed due to a cache issue, so I cleared that and tried again, but it still didn't work (I think that was when it was started saying something about the game folder. In my Docs I renamed the game folder I was playing with and then moved it onto my desktop and tried again but still didn't work. I logged out of my EA account and logged back in and tried again but still wasn't working. So I decided to uninstall the game and reinstall it, but now it won't even download the game stating that it can't create the folder. I've run through everything that's suggested on EA's website to address game download/install/load troubleshooter this morning, but that's done nothing. I have plenty of storage on my laptop and between the time I played TS4 and tried to play it again on the same day I hadn't downloaded anything new that would affect it. Can anyone offer a solution?
Crashdown117 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) Don't know how much of this you've already found on the EA website and forums, but here's my two cents worth: Check your antivirus for notifications, maybe that's interfering with things (I had Avast block access to the Mods folder once, had to whitelist both the folder in Docs and the game install folder to get around it). Also, cloud sync programs are known to be causing trouble sometimes, especially MS OneDrive with its auto-syncing of the Docs folder. If you have any kind of cloud syncing for any folder where the game or the EA app do stuff, disable it before running the install. The part about the "unable to create folder" message could mean that your user account (on your laptop) or just the EA app lacks the privileges to install stuff (or for some reason fails to use these privileges). Running the EA app as admin / with elevated privileges should help you get around that. However, that error could also hint at a more general problem, so you may want to check your hard drive for errors (on Windows, you'd usually run the built-in "chkdsk" command, as explained e.g. here: https://www.avast.com/c-chkdsk-windows).
