plutocene Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I'm having a weird issue were all dragons encountered do not attack me at all, while they do attack NPCs. Some even land next to me and start talking. I went through any mod I could think of related to dragons but could not find a similar bug reported or identify a potential culprit. MNC is referenced last, I lacked the patch for deadly dragons, but that didnt fix the problem. Other than MNC, aroused creatures, Deadly dragons and some mesh/texture replacers I only use talkative dragons and shouting provokes dragons, none of which should cause this behavior afaik. I have never seen this behavior before. The main quest is started and dragons roam the world, so under vanilla conditions, they should be hostile. My best guess is, something affects the player faction for dragons. Suggestions please?

This would suggest yes, something interfering. Any mod configured ? Shouting Provokes Dragons This mod attempts to provoke dragons to focus on the player, when the player uses a shout. I would try disabling/uninstalling the mod. According to him , if you don't provoke the dragon, it doesn't even know you exist

teitogun Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) I know this isn't helpful but I'd just like to remark that sounds like the most awesome bug ever Edited November 18, 2024 by teitogun 1
plutocene Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 (edited) Thanks for the replies. Disabling mods that obviously affect dragon behavior was the first thing I tried, along with reading up all bug reports on shouting provokes dragons, deadly dragons, and talkative dragons, as well as the forums here, with no matching descriptions. Disabling these mods does not affect their state, they remain passive. I did lack the MNC / Deadly dragons patch, but thats just a cosmetic thing, this is a script issue. I do have SL hormones, MNC installed, however, disabling these script heavy mods will break the save and afaik do not change their state either. Loading a clean, vanilla save from the nexus, the dragons are hostile with all mods enabled. I then tried and backtracked to a playthrough save 2 weeks ago, the dragons are hostile there. I tested lots of saves between recent and that save and all beyond a certain point have this issue, I didnt notice it for so long due to avoiding dragons So something happened in between, that caused this issue and it stuck ever since. I do have SL hormones installed but not pheromones, untamed, so at least I can rule that out. I have a suspect but its a little out there. Meridias quest bugged out, she would not talk. So I had to use console commands to set the quest stages. Ever since then, the dragons appear to be broken. Perhaps the player is protected from dragons during the meeting with meridia and this stuck or something? Edited November 19, 2024 by plutocene
MadMansGun Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 try "player.RemoveFromFaction 00032D9C" in the console.

Thanks but I already tried to remove the player from the dragon faction. Somehow, the Meridia's quest bugging out, bugged out the dragons. When I pick up dawnbreaker, I get teleported to the sky but she does not talk. I'm stuck up there. I then used console commands to end the quest and teleported back down using console. However, it appears something got stuck. I tested it, I teleported directly to a dragon lair and the dragon from the final chat with meridia, he does not respond. I have a save directly before picking up dawnbreaker, thus triggering the sequence, I teleported to a dragon, and he attacked. Therefore, something related to meridias quest got stuck 2 weeks ago, and I broke the game by teleporting out of the scene. Back then, I could not figure out why Meridias quest glitched, I never had issues before. Why this now affects dragons is another mystery, any ideas?

What mod adds dragons to this quest? I'd look for culprit there.

Before pickung up dawnbreaker: Teleport to dragon lair, Dragons hostile. Ater pickung up dawnbreaker and teleporting out of the skyscene: Dragons passive (and remain so permanently). What exactly breaks meridias quest, is another thing, my money is on a SL/Ostim based dialogue mod. Edited November 19, 2024 by plutocene

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought once you pick up Dawnbreaker you get teleported to a dragon lair for an additional fight or something. Edited November 19, 2024 by belegost
belegost Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Break_of_Dawn#Bugs Apparently Meridia's quest stage where you hang in the air is prone to bugging out. I wound suggest redoing the whole thing and see what happens. 2

Best guess, some new dialogue mod affects it, or it is simply a vanilla glitch as you suggested: "When you hang in the sky during the time you are supposed to be talking to Meridia after acquiring the sword, there's a strong possibility that nothing will happen and you will be left dangling in the sky, unable to complete the quest, or move anywhere." 11 minutes ago, MadMansGun said: player.RemoveFromFaction 0010E0BD This! It's labeled as DA09TemporaryDragonFriendFaction. DA09 is a an ID of "The Break of Dawn" quest. So it seems that indeed you were set up with that flag and porting out without completing that stage left the flag behind. Edited November 19, 2024 by belegost

Story of my life. So my deduction was on point. Can you believe that I applied for Q&A in the industry 4 times and didn't even get an interview? I was lucky to have these save games, due to my suspicion of the buggy quest, or else I would have never made the connection. That extra faction flag explains why I could not fix it initially by removing the regular one for the dragon faction as well.

I used to work in QA for quite a number of years. Made me hate the whole industry. Don't recommend if gaming if your only hobby. You're bound to stop enjoying it and with no backup to fall to you'll be miserable and burn out quickly. Seen that happen to a lot of kids I worked with, who were all under the false impression they'll get to play games all day long. This is not how QA works. Edited November 19, 2024 by belegost

I have tried to make my own game, and that is not less taxing, in particular since you do not get paid at the very least. Anyways, thanks for the help everyone. Case closed.

And the job was pretty interesting and varied from project to project. It was the fact of having to deal with increasingly corporate and investor-focused mindset over the years. At some point we stopped dealing with games, we were dealing with "products", "franchises" and "IPs". Edited November 19, 2024 by belegost
