Say Hi!

Just thought I would say Hi and a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah

Hi to you too, and wishes back. ;):)

Well, yeah - Hi.

I've been here for a fair bit now, 9 months, I reckon. Long enough to start a new player.

But, I just changed my display name (though the image remains the same (The View From Groovy)), and figured saying Hi here was probably a good way to let people know.

So - Vidiot is now Coyotl.

Why the change?

When I joined up, my preferred gaming names were gone, and so a geek/fanboy handle was used. But now that my first mod is in progress, that's not really the name it should be released from. So, one of my creator/artist alternates comes into play for the new name.

Meanwhile, back at "Hi"...

I be ancient, in gamer terms, hence the skeletal avatar. I'm an old school gamer, going back to the little 3 booklets - Men & Magic, Monsters & Treasure, and Underground & Wilderness Adventures (along with Chainmail for the occasional mass battle)

For you youngsters, those were the original Dungeons & Dragons books, back before the hardbacks and expansions. (But, yeah - I had the first few editions of the hardbacks, too)

I started playing computer games on mainframes. Text and ascii graphics - such a thrill!

Then, back in 1980, I built my first computer so I could program my own DM assistant tools. It had a whopping 1K of RAM. Hard drives didn't exist as we know them, so programs had to be loaded from an external reader. At home, that was a cassette tape player playing modem type noise. Baud rates were so slow back then that it took about 20 minutes to load a full 1K data set into memory.

But, by gods, I could generate a randomized population for an entire village, all with full stats, names, occupations, etc.,.

but playing games on computer? Not so much yet. Text adventures were fun to a point, and frustration hell beyond that. (What do you mean I have to hiss to imitate the sound of a spray can?)

By the mid-late 80s, I started working in the computer/video game industry. We now had a whole 4 colours to work with! With an amazing 320x200 resolution (with non-square pixels. The horrors)

Most importantly, we could play actual games now. Some of those early worlds are still in play now. Wasteland is not only back in Wasteland 2, but Fallout was a remake of Wasteland. (As developers on Wasteland, rights still belonged to the publisher (EA? don't remember) So Fallout was created to allow continued play in that world, recreating the same storyline updated & expanded to the new tech.)

The Elder Scrolls shook things up bigtime for me. Arena & Daggerfall brought us a world that was huge, seamless (you could actually walk from one city to another! Gasp!) and so expansive in the options that a player could go months without ever really touching the actual "game" storyline. Just explore and have fun in the world of Tamriel.

I'm late to Skyrim, part by choice, part by circumstance. I bought Skryim on release, with no intention of playing it any time soon. Something else those early TES games taught me - wait for the patches! Later, I grabbed the Legendary Edition, because I always get the collected edition with the last patch & expansions. But my hardware was insufficient to really let Skyrim fly, so I waited again through medical issues until finally picking up the new system earlier this year. Now, patience is rewarded. Ah, the retired life - much Skyrim. Much modded. Much happy.

Hello everyone, I've been a member for a little bit now, but lost the password to my old account and the email it was registered under, so I started over and thought I would just be social and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy late Festivus!

Hi All !!  I am looking forwards to seeing all the wonderful ideas become most excellent mods. I thought I would be a programmer even got a cheesy degree but I suck hard at C++ and most every other lang with the exception of C# , I only moderately suck at it with unity. I love the Fallout series and am anticipating all the wonderful and devious mods, I learnt  about this forum back a bit with Skyrim but never got into playing it as much as I wanted or modding it unfortunately.

Uh, hello! Joined up ages ago and missed this thread since I was too busy drool... I mean stunned by all the skyrim/fallout mods here so sorry about the late introduction. I am a metalhead from Finland and I love gaming. I Would love to mod games myself but my talents lie in writing and in science. I used to play Skyrim a lot but since I lost my old computer I never got to redownload and install all my mods again. Gotten to play Vegas also thanks to the lovely mods on this site and thankfully those mods should still be up-to-date. Gotta go roam the wasteland again with my slut-ranger sometime when I can get out of Crusader Kings II which I recently started playing, again thanks to the modders here. Never did touch the vanilla version for some reason. Also, since Sims 3 is on sale on steam I might as well grab those given the abudance of mods for that game also ;).

So, in short, a bloke from Finland here that just wishes to say hi and a huge thank you for the talented modders here that got me to play some games that I never thought I'd touch again :).

Hi all.  Joined a little over a month ago (I think).  Finally returning to hardcore PC gaming after a few years exiled to being a console peasant, which was where my first Skyrim experience took place.  Looking to getting into modding myself and wanted to find something interesting and/or different from the normal kinds of things I've done in the past, hence my eventual arrival here to LL.  I've read a lot of forum posts and I have to say this seems like a pretty incredible community, very open and helpful.  It's good to be here.

Edit: Attached screenshot of my first modded character.
