Cynical Misanthrope Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 So, since my usual equipment here at my apartment has broken down (short on guitar strings, FL Studio that has decided to stop work for unknown reason and EZ Drummer that hangs up my pc) I have been forced to look for other ways to let my creativity get out. So I sat down and browsed through Goggle Play and found a cool program for my Android that lets me create music on it. So here is what I came up with so far. While I try to fix my issues here at home, I still want to share my work, if just for a few giggles. The program is very easy to use, but unfortunately you are very limited to what you can do. You can only use 8 channels per one loop length. Length can be divided into 1, 2, 4 and 8. (most songs, even in real life uses 8, not always ofc, but its the most common) So to paint a picture (or in this case, just letters) to understand the mechanic of it I'm gonna use 4 letters, that represent chords. It looks someting like this: 8 Loop: AAAAAAAA FFFFFFFF CCCCCCCC GGGGGGGG 4 Loop: AAAAAAAA FFFFFFFF 2 Loop: AAAAAAAA 1 Loop: AAAA Ok, thats it. Its hard for me to explain how it really works, since English is not my 1st language. Anyway, you simply arrange already existing sound files (they are just a few seconds) but if you combine 2 of the same kind, you create an "illusion" so it sounds longer. So a loop that is 2 seconds become 4 and so on. Okay, that covers the process how you create songs in this app. So I take no real credits for the sounds itself. But it's a cool program and you still need to arrange all instruments, loops, and thus creating a song. When you are done, you will also have to mix it (fine tune) It's also very time consuming. A normal song takes up to 6-8 hours to complete. And that is if I sit and work non-stop with it. And remember, this is done on a cellphone. Now that is freaking amazing right? The file format is MP3 and if you use the latest Winamp you should have no problem. If you don't want to download it, you can still listen to it. Just press the "listen button" *Note, the orgiginal sound file used to be in the .ogg format. But since users has reported they can't play the song in their browsers, I will from now on convert them to MP3, thus the quality of the sound will lack a little. Updated 9th Feb 2014. All files has been removed for now. They will be back soon after I have re-mixed them and changed some arrangement.
MikeMetal Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Stupid project ? Why you say that, it sounds great. I like the riffs, myself. In special from 3:12 - 3:43 / 9:04 - 9:36, I can swear it sounds very much to a song I know. Have you listened to "Forever Dead" by Torture Killer ? Towads the end of the song it goes melodic, very similar to yours and I love that part. Hell, I couldn't help but smile when I heard it. I wouldn't mind hearing more, keep up the good work.

Well, thank you Mike! And why I say it's stupid? Well, perhaps it was poor choice of words, but it's all done on my android and as I said, you are very limited on what you can do. I have a few other songs I'm working on, but since I'm a very self-critical person, it's gonna take a while to finish them. And some parts of some songs are just impossible to get a nice flow so it fits together without it sounding retarded. Even thou I haven't heard Forever Dead per say, I do know the band Torture Killer. Back when I discovered them, they sounded like Six Feet Under, but way more brutal. Not sure if that's the case today. I think I may need to check them out again

Wolfoftheshadows Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I saw stuff I needed to download and my laziness meter went off the chart... describe your music to me or oooh! Explain it to me like an epic adventure like Lord of The Rings!

Explain it to me like an epic adventure like Lord of The Rings! From my first post: "If you don't want to download it, you can still listen to it. Just press the listen button" I try to mix styles. But it ranges from Rock/Metal. At the moment I'm also working on a Techno song. But since I'm not a big fan of it, I have hard time getting it together. But I'm halfway through it.

gvman3670 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 My browser can't play it, or so the warning told me.
Cynical Misanthrope Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 My browser can't play it, or so the warning told me. It's prolly due to your browser can't handle the file format. Or have slow internetz so the file can't be loaded due to timeout or something. They are in .ogg format, and quite big in size. Latest Winamp can play them, but I understand if you rather want to listen to them directly. I see if I can convert them to Mp3 (should had done so from the beginning ) and upload them for you. // EDIT All files has been converted to Mp3. Should be able to listen to it now. At a price ofc, quality is little less better now. Also one new song has been added.
gvman3670 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Works fine now! So far it sounds good. Now to get some bass lines in there and maybe some vocals.

Thanks Well, 2nd song has vocals. But vocals in general is the weak element in the program. There are bass in the songs, maybe little low in some of em. Mixing is not my strong side, I just like to create stuff
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 YOU RAN OUT OF STRINGS??? ... holy fucknugget, how that? i got like a dozen sets per favorite brand / thickness in a cupboard, must be like 60 sets... this once happened to me some years ago, i was about to play an evening at a university-rock-cellar, was warming up, the b and e broke, and it was too late to score some in the shops here... luckily another dude helped me out though, but that was a lesson for life. better have too much off them than facing that nightmare ever again. (at this point guitar-strings are like condoms... better have some and not need them than needing some and not having any ) oh, about the topic: project sounds interesting indeed, imma go and sneak-ninja-check back here once in a while... good luck
Cynical Misanthrope Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 First post updated. Files has been removed for now. They will be back soon, after I have re-mixed them and changed some song-structures. This little project has grown more then I would ever expect and have started together with an 3D artist from DeviantArt a collaboration and given him a commission to draw a few 3D pictures for an upcoming demo. This is really exiting for me, and I hope you all will like the end results.
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 well, i for sure wish you good luck with your thingy... may malacath guide you on your journey to creative awesomeness
Guest carywinton Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Let me know if I can help with your "system" problems, "I am pretty good at fixing things, that's because Brailee thinks she always baking a cake or something"
