dr_rsc Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Had not played Oblivion in quite a while and got on to play for a bit. Haven't been having many problems other than the rare lag or crash. Had to step away from the machine, so did the 'quick save' of the game, exited as i've done many, many times without any problems. upon getting back into the game, this error keeps popping up: Lovers required OBSE to run! ds64 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I think your load order is a mess...Try to look at this (sample load order): http://www.loverslab.com/topic/23-quick-installation-guide/ About obse...Sorry for a stupid question, but did you launch the oblivion with obse_loader.exe??
gregathit Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 First off you MUST have OBSE installed. If you have a steam version you need to follow the special instructions, if a non-steam version then just run obse_loader.exe as was mentioned above. Next, WOW. Your load order is awful. Lovers clearly states what order things need to be in and ignoring this will just result in a game that won't work right. Finally, NEVER QUICK SAVE!!! FOR ANY REASON!!! NEVER!!! NEVER!!! Quick saves are the fastest way to fuck up your game that exists. Either make a manual full save or use one of the mod added auto saves. The default oblivion auto save feature is pretty buggy and not recommended. Cheers, Greg

Try to look at this (sample load order): http://www.loverslab.com/topic/23-quick-installation-guide/ About obse... Sorry for a stupid question, but did you launch the oblivion with obse_loader.exe?? its possible that has something to do with the problem - i have, since having this sudden problem, tried that as well as launching from obmm (won't work with steam, naturally) as well as several others. the typical way that has worked perfectly fine for me was using Profile Manager (it allows several characters). trial and error has demonstrated that this isn't the problem. other than the sudden appearance of this bizarre msg, the game still works ok but it very annoying to get a pop up tell you that something that actually is installed according to the instructions given, not only is not installed but implying the instrucitons weren't read.
gregathit Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 If the game is giving the error message that OBSE isn't running....then chances are pretty high that it is in fact not working. The OBSE for steam install instructions are quite clear and steam versions need to be launched through steam itself, as that is part of the install and use instructions for steam\OBSE. Make sure you follow those install and use instructions in the readme file of the OBSE archive. Using some third party mod manager may be causing your problem. Sorry.

thrownaway Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Can you access the steam overlay while playing Oblivion? (usually shift+tab) OBSE attaches to it in order to run. Make sure you have it enabled. If you do have it enabled (both in general settings and the oblivion specific ones) then you're in the same boat as me... which is SOL. A recent update must of thrown everything out of wack and now the gameoverlayui.exe doesn't run properly with Oblivion (and, from what I can tell, a few other games). So OBSE and any mod that depends on it wont work.

So OBSE and any mod that depends on it wont work. not sure what you mean - have always had 'Enable Steam Community In-Game' and the default was 'shift + tab' but oblivion hasn't ever allowed that to work. have always had to 'alt + tab' to get away from oblivion. was able to find time to do more trouble-shooting: went so far as to uninstall all mods and oblivion. then reinstalled oblivion which worked fine. then reinstalled the latest version of obse, pluggy, menu-que. already had recommended tools installed. then installed obse-elyse, then the male body replacer, the female body replacer and animations, the skeleton, then lovers main files, patches and supplement and nothing else. followed all instructions given and still get that annoying message '..lovers requires obse to run! you didn't read the instructions, did you?' every few seconds -which was mostly why i wiped everything out to begin with since all the instructions were followed. it seems to be some glitch that prevents the lovers mod from recognizing that obse is in fact running. before uninstalling everything, had removed only lovers and all the other mod installed that needed it were working just fine. its too bad as lovers was very amusing and good for lots of laughs. but the error message its giving seems like a telephone tech support person who tells someone who calls in for help, to just go to the help section on the website, when in fact the caller's computer won't even boot. 1st load order: GameMode=Oblivion Oblivion.esm=1 Lovers with PK.esm=1 Lovers with PK.esp=1 LoversMB2.esp=1 LoversIdleAnimsPriority.esp=1 LoversAnimObjectsPriority.esp=1 LoversRapeSlave.esp=1 LoversVoiceSSPplus.esp=1 LoversPayBandit.esp=1 LoversLight.esp=1 LoversAdultPlayPlusforSSP.esp=1 LoversBed.esp=1 LoversBackup2.esp=1 DLCShiveringIsles.esp=1 MaleBodyReplacerV5.esp=1 Knights.esp=1 DLCFrostcrag.esp=1 DLCMehrunesRazor.esp=1 DLCHorseArmor.esp=1 DLCOrrery.esp=1 DLCBattlehornCastle.esp=1 DLCThievesDen.esp=1 DLCVileLair.esp=1 DLCSpellTomes.esp=1 2nd load order: GameMode=Oblivion Oblivion.esm=1 Lovers with PK.esm=1 DLCShiveringIsles.esp=1 Knights.esp=1 DLCFrostcrag.esp=1 DLCMehrunesRazor.esp=1 DLCHorseArmor.esp=1 DLCOrrery.esp=1 DLCBattlehornCastle.esp=1 DLCThievesDen.esp=1 DLCVileLair.esp=1 DLCSpellTomes.esp=1 Lovers with PK.esp=1 LoversMB2.esp=1 LoversIdleAnimsPriority.esp=1 LoversAnimObjectsPriority.esp=1 LoversRapeSlave.esp=1 LoversVoiceSSPplus.esp=1 LoversPayBandit.esp=1 LoversLight.esp=1 LoversAdultPlayPlusforSSP.esp=1 LoversBed.esp=1 LoversBackup2.esp=1 MaleBodyReplacerV5.esp=1

You do not need to use obse_loader.exe unless you are running the editor. well, first i want to thank the few people who showed some interest in the problem for their attention. second, i did read and follow the instructions. thank you for repasting them and for referring back to them. but again, during troubleshooting, i did reread the instructions, double-checked that i had initially followed the instructions and had the same problem. i think i mentioned above that due to extreme annoyance with that asinine lovers error message, i went so far as to remove everything, uninstall the game, clear the folders and reinstall oblivion (through steam, not sure if that was mentioned in the op or not), reread the instructions from lovers, got only the mods recommended, installed them in the order in the instructions, checked settings in steam ('enable steam community in-game' is and always has been on be default fyi), did the copying of files as stated above still, that same lovers message continued to pop-up every few seconds to stop the gameplay until it was cleared whereupon it would pop up yet again, and again and again. as for the load order at first it was left as it happened from the install and the wonderful lovers error message was the result. to me, how the toon looks in-game is way, way more important than if lovers is loaded or works or whatever. that was partly why i had the load order as it was. expirementing by having lovers stuff prioritzed still resulted in the same irritating message and completely stopping ANY gameplay until the damn message would pop up again a few seconds later. the lovers mods were great, adding some excitement, a little fun and a lot of amusement to the game. there is nothing else out there that ive seen that is even close. nothing. but for me, i got oblivion for some diversion, not to get the lovers mod. and as im sure i did say, this was a sudden incident of that error mentioning in the op. it didnt happen after some tinkering with the settings or anything of that sort. so the rote advice given, was a good starting point, if say i had just gotten lovers installed. but i hadn't just gotten lovers installed. it was working fine. yes, despite the 'mess' of my original load order and the so-called 'mess' of the subsequent load orders i mentioned just above. obviously, the load order had nothing whatsoever to do with the problem mentioned. it happened all of a sudden. and as i recall, it was after a steam update. so again, thanks for the suggesting of checking install instructions and the other advice given. i really do appreciate the time and consideration the few people took to respond. its clear the problem is something to do with steam. its not rocket science, its not the load order, nor following (or double-checking whether or not i did follow..) the instructions. since playing the game is only an occasional thing, and since it was just the lovers stuff (and that damn irritating message and the subsequent stopping gameplay every few seconds) was giving problems, the solution was obvious: remove the lovers stuff. the error stopped and as far as im concerned, the problem has been solved. maybe if this happens to more people a workaround might be come up with. but since it seems only one other person has experienced this, thats not likely. ill check back from time to time but for now, lovers stuff (which is sort of too bad) ain't getting reinstalled.
Khazumi Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 If you have a Pluggy mod that uses HUD functionality, see the warning below. If you decide to enable the HUD functionality, change the Pluggy dll file name from "OBSE_Elys_Pluggy.dll" to "OBSE_Elys_Pluggy_HUD.dll". (Only change the .dll file name, leave the .dlx name the way it is!) If you use a save game manager, or manually move around your save files, be aware that there are 2 extra files to move. These co-save files keep the data that correspond to your save game. One contains the Pluggy data (---.pluggy) and the other the OBSE data (---.OBSE). Make sure to keep these files when you move the .ess save file, or delete them if you delete the .ess file. As far as Savegame Managers are concerned, I know Wrye Bash is aware of both .OBSE and .pluggy and will correctly move them around, but I don't know about any other Savegame managers.
Callipygic Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I'm having the same problem. Just to cover the usual responses... Yes I read the instructions. Yes I do have OBSE, the dlls are in the oblivion folder, the ini is in data/OBSE, and pluggy's plugin files are there too in /plugins. I've tried with both a save game and a fresh start... the message is occurring in both situations. Yes the overlay is active both in steam and in the oblivion settings... it's on by default in both. To the best of my knowledge it's never worked in Oblivion. Yes I'm using steam to run oblivion. Trying to use obse_loader.exe actually doesn't work, as it detects its a steam client. I have checked my load order: Lovers with PK.esmDLCShiveringIsles.espDLCHorseArmor.espDLCOrrery.espDLCVileLair.espDLCMehrunesRazor.espDLCSpellTomes.espDLCThievesDen.espDLCBattlehornCastle.espDLCFrostcrag.espKnights.espLoversAdultPlayPlusforSSP.espLoversVoiceSSPplus.espRMDailyIncomeV2.espLoversPayBandit.espLovers with PK.espCB Elegant Dress.espColourwheels Sexy & extremely short dress.espColourwheels Sexy Hentais DarkRose.espHGEC_Mystix_V1-0.espHepsCloth02-MiniDress.espDM-Lingerie.espEVE_StockEquipmentReplacer.espHGEC_special_armor_repl.espSW01Minus.espLoversMB2.espLoversBackup2.espLoversBed.espLoversLight.espLoversHooker.espLoversAdultPlayPlusforSSP_HookerPatch.espLoversIdleAnimsPriority.espLoversAnimObjectsPriority.esp I'm pretty sure this isn't a load order issue, though. I'm not sure why you're saying all this. I said in my post that I know that already. I was just trying to use the loader in desperation, and was pointing out that that cannot be the problem for anyone, as it simply won't load the game if it detects a steam game. Still, I moved those down as you recommended. No change. And your game can not start !! no Oblivion.esm !!! It's unticked by default, and the game starts just fine. I ticked it anyway to try. It didn't make a difference. Any other suggestions?
kingkong Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 generaly when it says you have no obse it means it is not loading or you did not install correctly all the latest files obse needs or you installed it in an other folder check if obse is in the right folder (oblivion) and check that you have no double installation of oblivion . i do not see anything else (but i do not possese all knowlege and have no christal ball) if it is not that my only solution is to wipe out everything about oblivion in your computer registery, saves (make a back up in an other folder, hard drive) ,folder do not forget windows my game registery and folder(it can save an exe anoying) and reinstall all again when it is all clean.
