Improved Camera Stuck Facing Wrong Direction

Recommended Posts

I've been struggling with an issue with Improved Camera where some animations have me facing the wrong directions, I can sometimes fix it by using num3 to get into spectator mode and using the perspective change button, but it usually does not work, and I haven't been able to identify what's been causing it.

Is there a way to reset the camera so it faces in the right direction, has anyone else experienced this issue?

Have seen it indirectly, both in correct and incorrect orientation, so I can confirm if nothing more.

Possibly, and I say that very loosely, it might have something to do with which participant is in focus (SL  has a hotkey for focusing on the different participants, for re-positioning purposes) at the time of going into first person. Also might depend how you get there (hotkey > 1st person, or mouse wheel into 1st person)  <<< I say that only because I've seen it both "correctly" and "incorrectly" displayed, suggesting something "extra" is happening that's causing it

tbh, not even sure which view perspective Improved Camera is using in those situations (ie sitting, mounted, etc), but in addition, another problem is that there isn't a "reverse orientation" setting to set in Improved Camera's menu

As I recall, the author of Improved Camera said that he removed the SL specific things he'd added in a previous version in the latest, so... you might, maybe, possibly  fare better with an earlier version that didn't have that content stripped... idk.

Way back in LE or pre-LE I saw this issue occasionally. Back then the equivalent mod was called Enhanced Camera. Only a select few animations were affected. I recall the fix was in the animation files themselves; probably a node needed to be rotated or something along these lines to have the camera face the right way. So assuming that's still the case, and you managed to find some "broken" animations somewhere, it's quite likely you can't do anything about it without Blender and/or the (increasingly rare) Havok toolkit.

Edit: Like for instance some years ago I saw animations that had a floating camera on a spline. Those animations were annoying for us that wanted to control our cameras, or use first person camera mods. But that's most likely also a node moving around with the animation, just for the 3rd person camera instead of the 1st.
