zataka Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) My first playthrough was totally blind, and as part of it I spent a ton of time base building and set up an entire network of mines across numerous planets. Then I finished the MSQ, discovered how the NG+ system works, and immediately felt like I’d wasted all my time. Just curious how the community feels about this. https://100001.onl/ Edited May 17, 2024 by zataka
You just need to read all the threads here in this forum section... I, for example, don't write everything down again. Short version: I think most parts of this game are either nonsense (background of the grav drive or colonization with less than 5% of the earth's population - thus 95% of humanity dies) or defective or poorly developed (such as a non-functioning space suit or bubbling methane -Ponds on planets with a surface temperature of plus 600 °C or 2D oceans in which you have to scan "fish") Of course there are some players who don't mind all that - but that's just their business.
nIn nIn nIn Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Considering none of us knew about exactly how NG+ worked, I think you will find we were all a little bit shocked to reappear with just a space suit, and a ship (admittedly fancy) that only had a pilots seat in it and no way to modify it at all. The latest beta addresses the empty starborn ship issue as it now come with the decorate panel allowing us to fill our ship up with all the stuff. Still can't modify the external but hey. Yay. As for base building, leave the intricate stuff till after you have done all the NG+ repeats you want, or ignore the NG+ altogether. Since they fixed the refid issue NG+ isn't "compulsory" anymore. I never really got into base building all that much, just a couple of outposts with good resources and a long line of containers that got filled up and I actually forgot to go empty and sell. Too busy doing pirate stuff etc. Edited May 14, 2024 by nIn nIn nIn

Too busy doing pirate stuff etc. Aside from the options with construction being horribly limited compared to fallout 4 vanilla, let alone modded there isn't really any good endgame for base building. It is not even the settlements of fallout 4 all you can have is some resource gathering outposts for crafting when you can just buy the crafting supplies cheaply and easily, unlike fallout, from merchants. I really think the ship full of colonists you meet in one of the quests could have been the base building end-game, finally allowing you to build a real town with actual citizens/settlers and shops and whatnot. I mean you can already give the old earth colonists the gravdrive might as well give them a destination too (worst case, like hearthfires it will be limited to three options/biomes each with their own pro's and cons). Best case scenario this will saved for this game's equivalent of the "Hearthfires" DLC. Helping the generation ship colonists actually settle a world could have been a good late-game money and resource sink as well as an "end-game" to the base building with a hub for all those resources from the small outposts to feed into that is a proper town hub. Just my two cents anyway and I will probably save the base-buidling until after we get CK and CK mods.
The bases originally had a completely different purpose: The fuel consumption for jumps between star systems was deactivated shortly before the start of sales - so building bases to produce raw materials or fuel (hydrogen) no longer makes sense. Since there are no spaceports for refueling in the eastern area of the star map (which is actually tiny with around 100 systems), the players should set up their own resupply system... that's the only way to get to a series of "temples" for them missing "fragments". Apparently there were some unsolvable problems with the networking of the individual bases (analogous to the "caravans" between the settlements in Fallout-4)! In my 30 days (with the free game pass) I got to the first jump into NG+ - from then on this game no longer made sense to me - so I can't say whether this "super spaceship" even needs external fuel would...then why build another network of bases??
bland2 Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 I hit the same with the ship building. First round, built the ultimate ship. I mean this baby was fast, powerful, could outrun and outshoot anything in the galaxy, had cargo space to spare. And it looked beautiful. It could do the Kessel Run in 11 parsecs - I kid you not. And then NG+ and I'm like, sod that I'm not going through all that again. I get that the whole point of the multiverse thing is "You really shouldn't give a shit about anyone or anything because multiverse." But that was when I walked away from the game. 1
DocClox Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 I built the ultimate ship in NG+0. And then I built a better one on NG+1. NG+2 I build one with the same performance, but better laid out. NG+3, I started getting a bit creative I like the way that NG+ forces me to build new ships. I have fond memories of the Brute Force Algorithm, and the Kundalini. B ut if I still had them, I'd never have build the Wrunkard's Dalk, and that ship is a lot of fun. 1
