Strange lighting on players body

A few days ago I encountered this bug, I did tons of research on fixes and found that pregnancy normalmap swapper was a common cause for this. I then deleted this mod, and anything that may depend on the mod aswell (I didn't even know I had PNS).

After deleting those mods, I then encountered the blackskin bug only on my player. I then fixed this bug by downgrading my racemenu one version. At first I thought I had fixed my game, but instead I was just brought back to square one.

As far as I can tell, the bug tends to happen when racemenu is used at all, or when equipping or unequipping armour.

Please can someone help me I would love to get back to playing normally!

As I recall reading when PNS was initially getting around for a while, its side effects were mostly permanent to the save.  I know there was some work on cleaning it up to recover saves/characters/npcs that had been infected, but it was pretty messy.  This is all months ago, and things may have been improved - can't say though.

I'd recommend trying a new game with your current mod list (after having removed PNS), and confirm if the problem still exists.  If it's gone, you might do some more research on the cleaning process for the swap, if you don't want to give up on your current save.  Best I can recommend.

Good luck!

Ahhh I forgot about that! 3am probably isn't the best time to be tinkering with mods haha.

I went back and found an old save before I installed the mod using PNS and so far everything is going good!

What I have learned is: Make a backup when installing new mods that add big features!!

The issue has come back, when switching to a different preset (I have tried making new presets and nothing has changed), the lighting bug comes back.

This issue must be something to do with racemenu, I am 99.9% sure that racemenu is the issue here.

Well I think that RM version is tied to Skyrim version or at least SKSE64 version so it might be worth digging in to that a bit more.

I'd also look at Data\textures\actors\character\female to make sure you have the necessary files there.

femalebody_1.dds

femalebody_1_msn.dds

femalebody_1_s.dds

femalebody_1_sk.dds

Well for starters the whole skin override thing in RM is really half-assed. It has issues like:

  1. Forgetting to apply the overrides when the game is started/loaded.
  2. Forgetting to apply the overrides after RaceMenu is closed.
  3. When applying a MSN override, it also applies it to hands if not wearing gloves - the workaround is ugly.
  4. ...

As for undoing the "damage" from PNS:
