I messed up!

I accidently let my Skyrim SE version 1.5.97 get updated to 1.6.117 and of course nothing works now and I can't seem to back date my game at all. Anyone on here that can help me down grade my game version please?

Go to the downgrade patcher on Nexus, then look under the posts, pinned, there will be instructions there to downgrade through Steam files, follow the instructions.

You will downgrade to a certain version through Steam, then downgrade further with the Patcher.

I just had to go through this. If you get lost or need help, PM me and I will do what I can to help you.

Take your time reading the instructions too, they are written for those who already know how to use them.

Also your mods in your Mod Manager will still be fine after you redo the SKSE Script Extender from Silverlock.org 

Just redo all that entails, and overwrite in your Mod Manager

Yeah I've done that. Ive looked through guides and on top of that the most recent version of the down grade patcher doesn't match the version I have.

 

I wouldn't be asking on here had I not already tried and was looking for some type of help or guidance.

I'll give it a go again maybe I messed up. Updates were disabled but I was having a weird issue with the game CTDing so like a dummy I validated the files on steam instead of taking a look at my load order and remembering that I made changes.

 

But yeah thanks I'll see if I can get it right this time.

Skyrim SE/AE 11.7.0 or whatever its called broke the downgrade patcher so bad Halgari said it's going to be easier to just re write the whole damn thing, streamline it too.

Just do what is in those two vids and you will be fine.

Order - download game, verify files, adjust steam settings downloads only after launch & never allow background downloads. Then start with SKSE script extender.

I had lost my whole Mod Manager along with all my mods, pictures, etc. when my computer crashed, at least you still have all the mods in your MM.

Some things to consider:

• Buying from Steam you essentially only lease games. Skyrim can be removed from your inventory at any moment. Crtitical points these days is when newer iterations of games launch - think TES 6, especially if TES 6 is a live service with 15 different in-game monetization systems.
• Buying from Steam you have no control over your purchased items, even after the deal has been made. Receipts, titles and descriptions mean nothing. They enable bait-n-switch through forced updates. The fact that you can (at the moment) download an older version of Skyrim from Steam is something you definitely should not take for granted - it's been gone before, it was restored at some point.

Defence:

• Have a local backup of the original vanilla Skyrim files. This alone goes a long way in protecting you. If you value Skyrim, make sure you do not rely on Steam for files you paid for - they do not consider them to be yours.
• Prepare a crack, or the utilities to do it yourself. Test, make sure you can run without Steam. Should you have to use it, you will lose out on certain dll containing mods but that's the price for future-proofing in this case. GOG may be a better alternative in some situations, but very similiar downsides exist there as well.
• Simply disabling "update on launch" does not protect you from all updates, nor does it protect you from accidental file validations like you just discovered. Learn how to reliably block updates from Steam. Make sure your protections work even if Steam was to change their approach to applying updates.
