warev Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 (edited) So i've recently been playing Fallout 1 and it's incredibly good for its time, but the systems feel very outdated and it could benefit greatly from a nice 3d remake, they could even fill the open world with small things to do, instead of the click here and go there style of the original. Even just an enhanced edition with clearer graphics instead of the pixeled mess the original is would go a long way to enchance the experience. I've seen a lot of people say New Vegas should be the game to get a remake/remaster but its not even that old and its systems and gameplay haven't aged that badly either, plus most of it's issues can be fixed with mods, unlike with Fallout 1. You already know that Fallout 1 - which I just started again yesterday after 10 years - has a completely different game principle -> turn-based battles and an isometric projection of the game world Yes - there is certainly a fan community for this - but even I wouldn't pay more than 5-10 dollars/euro for a revision... and the customer base would ultimately be so small - that this would only be worthwhile as a fan project - but not for a studio that claims to produce "AAA" titles. If anything, a completely new creation as a 3D game would make sense - like the way "Fallout 3" was created back then. Skilled fans, aka a group of mod authors, would be able to do something like this much better than "Bugdesta"... but both would need several years for such a project. I don't think a revision in the "old style" - something similar had already been done for "Wasteland" - would be effective. axo - the TV series "Fallout" that is now starting is very similar to "Fallout 1" for me (I only know the trailer material) -> Bunker resident is sent to the surface on an official mission and encounters a world like him there she never expected (my wife and I have been big fans of the Fallout game series for over 20 years... so we're really excited about the implementation at the moment)
Guest Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 I have not played all of Fallout 1, but based on what I have played and on what I know of the story, New Vegas gets my nod as the better story (the best of all among 1, 3, NV and 4; I've never played any of 2 and know almost nothing about its story).
dborg2 Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 While Fallout 1 and 2 are nice games, content-wise (compared to Fallout 3/New Vegas) they are at most 'Honest Heart-DLC' size. Sure the cities are nice, but nothing happens between the cities. And each city has less then 10 quests and each game has about 6-7 cities. So you are talking at most 50 quests in total per game.
Mort-Vivant Posted November 25, 2025 Posted November 25, 2025 fallout 1 & 2 doens't need a remake I don't understand why it would need one To reach new audience ? reals fans of fallout have already played the first or will play it anyway. My introduction to fallout was with FNV and the 1&2 was released long before I was born. didn't stop me from playing it even if it's janky as hell and outdated To reach nostalgics gamers ? these game are 30 years old, og gamers no longer play, and the few who still play will be disapointed by a remake because remake are made to appeal to a new and younger audience, so as a remake this game will lose its identity and would not be aimed at early fans but for a completely different audience see the current gothic 1 remake scandale ? or with all the other remake (no remaster I talk about remake) ? same thing will happen with a fallout remake absolutly 0 interests
Count Chocula Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 (edited) The stories of FO1 and/or 2 do not require that the game be isometric view, turn-based games. Whether it would be worth the financial effort to make completely new games with those stories, that seems unlikely. And it's certainly not true that "real" fans of FO have played or will play FO 1 and 2, unless you define "real fan of FO" as "someone who has played FO1 and/or 2." I can't stand playing FO1. It's not the age of the game or the isometric view I dislike (I still p;lay BG1 and 2), it's the turn-based combat. Which is also the reason I dislike BG3. Edited November 28, 2025 by Count Chocula

We will not be doing so. Noting that FO1 (and presumably 2) are good (or whatever it is you're saying) because they provide "role-play" is like saying that because Coca-Cola comes in cans, it provides worthwhile nutrition. When it comes to entertainment, people play, read, watch and listen to the things they like. There's a word for people who purport to like playing, reading, watching and listening to things because they think it will cause others to think they are cool.
