Gum2503 Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 hello everyone, I would like to know how to uninstall EVERYTHING so that I can reinstall cleanly. because the first time I tried to put mods on my game it went wrong and I made lots of mistakes and I would like to start again now that I know better how to do it, except that the problem is that the last time I uninstalled the mods, you didn't delete the LOOT and mod organizer 2 mods, even uninstalling mod organizer is not enough so what should I do?
Canaduh Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 In your start Menu is a MO2 option that includes uninstall. If you install via steam, create a secondary install location, and install to there. Make sure you go into the program files and purge MO2. Go into your user saved games and delete all the saved ini files. The thing about windows is that if you created the same named folder int he same location after deleting it, it would still have the same preferences unless overwritten, or the file structure changed, and my understanding is that MO2's virtual folder adheres to the rule.
Just Don't Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 (edited) Uninstall from Steam. Go to Steam/steamapps/common and delete the Skyrim Special Edition folder in there. Go to Documents/My Games/ and delete the Skyrim Special Edition folder in there. As for MO2 and LOOT, these are external programs. You can uninstall LOOT easily from Control Panel>Add and remove programs. You may end up with some remaining files in your AppData/Local folder but nothing to worry about. If you intend to use LOOT in the future you don't even need to uninstall it really. For MO2 depending on the type of instance you have (global or portable) you'll have to delete one/a few folders. To know the exact location of all the MO2 files you can check the Paths menu in MO2>Settings. So in simple words remove the MO2 files you installed, wherever you installed them. Also if you intend to keep using MO2 you don't need to uninstall it either, you can remove your installed mods, downloads, profiles, or general MO2 settings depending on what you want to keep or remove. Getting familiar with MO2's folder structure wouldn't hurt either way (really, just go to MO2>Settings>Paths and you'll see exactly where MO2 stores all its files). Guest Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 I highly recommend deleting anything using special programs that allow you to clean the registry and find all traces left by the application you want to delete. This is much more effective than using standard removal.
Short conversation with my wife to clarify how we always handle things: 1) Delete Skyrim under Window - like a normal window program 2) then uninstall Skyrim from Steam - if you got it from there 3) now use the "atomic" option -> remove aka delete the directories in which Skyrim was installed So you have everything that Skyrim left behind on your computer -> eliminated and now you can start with a clean new installation
