[AAF] Why are the Scene controls so damn bad!?

I looked at the wiki, the google doc, the moddingham forums... is all we can do is cycle scenes and cycle randomly through anims?

 

Staged? Why? How? How is this useable at all? Anim duration? Is that random too? ??
