...How do you create your own traits and/or backstories?

I recently decided to finally get this game, right now I'm just messing with the base game until I get used to everything before messing with huge mods. (like RJW and mods of that)

Only mod I'm messing with right now is the character editor just so I have more control over my starting characters. I looked everywhere but couldn't figure out how to create my own traits/backstories, would be nice/fun to mess around with. Make my characters more unique and stuff...

Making your own traits and backstories is something you'd have to mod in, it's not something you can make in-game.

Well someone elsewhere has showed me a mod for creating backstories, so...nothing for Traits for some reason, though.

There is a mod that makes you do that. It should be on Steam. It was Backstory Constructor, i think? Go wild, my little one.

Download a one trait mod (it would be more beneficial though to download a collection of them), and read through them to gain a basic understanding on how trait mods work. After which search online, be it reddit or just google, on trait functions and etc. perhaps you could locate the game file containing all the base traits of the game and their effects. After this you should pretty much be able to add most traits you think of by yourself, either by editing the game files, or creating your own mod for that particular trait.? Experiment... it's fun to understand the intricacies of a game and decide on new ways to enhance your user experience on your own without having to wait for a basic trait mod. Haven't got around it myself as i am still researching the game right now, and whether it's worth the purchase (the major requirement for me is the ability to mod or alter the game to match my desired experience without having to recode the whole game itself.), but best believe i plan on altering the hack out of the game to eliminate some of the grind.

PS. I was never meant for grinding,? just not my cup of tea, but i would gladly spend 3 to 4 days going over game files for a 5 hour playthrough any-day.

there are no better moddable games with similar amounts of mods that can be mixed and mashed almost freely into any theme you want than Rimworld. What do you mean you need to research? What do you mean grind? Rimworld has no endless lootboxes and levels and rare gear with dozens of modifiers (unless you add in the mods that add exactly that)

there is a huge chance that anything you don't like about the game, someone has made a mod that attempts to fix exactly that

We may have different views on what we consider grinding. I cannot for the life of me manage a colony or society without somehow altering the resources i have (or the requirements for a certain resource, e.g. stat requirements for a better yield when acquiring that resource) through other means. It's just not appealing to me to actively learn a dozen mechanics for a game that i may or may not enjoy long enough to reap the benefits of that effort, but its understandable for others to enjoy that type of thing, but I play/purchase games for relaxation, and not additional and unwanted stress. This is the reason why I typically only play games with easily accessible game files, or modding community, which Rimworld falls under.

I mean viewing gameplay videos, and the available mods for the game.

Which is why I am considering purchasing the game and the dlcs.

Then it is settled that i will inevitably purchase it, seeing as it might be a fruitful purchase.

And thanks for providing your view on the game. It proved insightful, and helpful.

If you don't want to learn to play the game, perhaps let's-plays or simply TV would be a better entertainment alternatives?

And? Should I be swayed by what you believe I should and should not do? Sure they could serve as alternatives, but I am allowed to not choose that form of entertainment, just as you chose to post that statement. I have the free will and freedom to feel regret, exuberance, and satisfaction from my decisions just as anyone else.?

Perhaps, or perhaps not. I may never now without dipping my toes in it.
