Blademonk Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) I obviously haven't conducted any formal studies on this, I'm just basing my initial thoughts on what the product in the market reflect. For instance: on Resident Evil modding communities you will see 800,000 outfits that are over-the-top sexy and maybe 20 outfits that are realistic sexy. Let's call this OTTS (over the top sexy) and RS (realistic sexy). I prefer RS to OTTS, but that is just my opinion. It adds some sexy flavour to my gaming while still keeping me grounded in the story and world. Take this example of a mod from Resident Evil 3. The exposed midriff really adds something to her otherwise generic tank-top outfit. She looks good, but still looks like a woman who could be fighting off zombies. Spoiler Then there's these mods, that make it look like Jill just left her part-time job at a strip club before the zombie madness went down. This looks more like one of those "Sexy Cop" outfits you see a thematic performer wear at a bachelor party or a strip club, or maybe a risque halloween costume. Spoiler Now this thread is not to say "RS is better than OTTS". Everyone can have their own opinion and mod what they want. My curiosity instead is focused on why the OTTS mods always seem to outnumber the RS mods? Is there just no demand for them? It seems to apply with every gaming community I can think of. I struggle to find a mod that's just "Claire in a shortened tank top" but can easily find "Claire in bunny ears, a shiny vinyl thong, and pasties on her tits". Curious. How curious. Blademonk Posted October 2, 2023 Author Posted October 2, 2023 Sure - I take it you're a fan of RS modding style as well? https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil32020/mods/169/

I'm looking at her "outfit" as underequipped for fighting anything (including the common cold). Completely inadequate hand/arm protection, no upper body protection to speak of. No helmet. With the exception of her footwear, there is minimal functional difference in protective quality between either of the two examples given. She may as well be wearing a swimsuit for all the defensive benefit she is receiving from her clothing. I wouldn't categorize either as "realistic" for a combat encounter. "Realism" seems like it should be an objective term, but it very seldom is.

Cool research you having here? Edited October 2, 2023 by Maglog

Eh, keep in mind that in RE3, Jill is ambushed in her apartment after waking up from a nap and wears those clothes for the rest of the game. "Realism" isn't going to be SWAT armor, So, I might be putting words in OP's mouth here, but in this context, I take realism to mean that the clothes are believably something the character might be wearing. The first outfit looks like a tank top she might own and occasionally wear in public. The second outfit looks like she's about to head over to a bachelor party to tell the groom he's under arrest for being too sexy. Which is fine. I played through that game a few times, and I had her naked or in fetish gear most of the time. I didn't really give a rat's ass about "realism", but I get what OP is saying, and if that's his preference, power to him. 2
Gigabash Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) am pretty much open to all it just depend of the mood or the style of the game sometimes i like it over the top sometimes i like it in a way it is ''canon to its universe'' if that make sense Edited October 2, 2023 by DoctorDementor
EpicGravyNinja Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) I think that the idea of 'realistic' sexy is just how an actual woman might dress, unrealistic is how a virgin man whose only interaction with women, is onlyfans and porn, would dress a woman. The lack of actual understanding of how women want to dress and how men think women should dress is what makes this a thing. I think. it's like, I like my wife to dress sexy but not OTT so she looks like a stripper. Edited October 2, 2023 by EpicGravyNinja

The other guy is being too anal about the word 'realism', if we split hairs like that literally every game character under the sun would be open to scrutiny and you'd see conversations like "Why does Solid Snake's boots not have a thicker gristle on them" and such. Let's keep it simple, logical, the way a common person would think. If you saw a woman like Jill dressed in Outfit 1, during a zombie situation, you might look twice but that's it. She still has cargo pants and tactical pouches and everything. The second outfit would make you think "Ummm what the fuck are you doing here go find some different clothes first". Are you one of those guys who thinks dudes stop looking at porn after they get a girlfriend? That's the kind of thing a guy who's only recently lost his virginity might think. I remember being that guy. I remember being absolutely infatuated with a girl and thinking I'd never want to look at porn again. That was 23 years ago, and I was dead wrong. Porn is still hot. Unrealistic sexy clothing and nudity in mods is hot. It's not just virgins and basement dwellers who like that stuff, and it's a really dumb stereotype.

Also character designers.

I mean, it's why we're all here, right? We're looking for mods that turn games into pornography to varying degrees. It sounds like you're calling people out as losers for liking something that you also like.
