Help with form 43 to 44 master file

Im trying to change a master file called daymoyl.esm which is a form 43 to a 44, but when I try to do the way you change the forms for a plugin file, the master file doesnt change to a active file so Im not able to change it to a 44 at all. So I was wondering on what kind of ways can you change a 43 master file to a 44. I tried to go into the text doc and change the Saveesm thing to true but still nothing changed when trying it again.

Open the plugin in xEdit, and remove its ESM flag. Rename the file extension to esp. Now it's a regular plugin. Reverse the process after doing your 43/44 thing.

Edit: But yeah, the whole form 43/44 thing is a bit of a joke as far as I know. Been running with form 43 plugins since day 1 of SE. Then again, I'm sure there's *some* reason for it, I just haven't ran into it yet in all my years of modding.

This will for sure break it.

CK does not correct convert the 8bit to 16 bit pointers.

The engine knows what to do, but not CK.

Me neither. I'm pretty sure at this point that warning is just adding needless complication to inexperienced modders.

If you use the SSE CreationKit Fixes mod on nexus you can directly edit and save esm files (except official Bethesda ones). But there is no reason to convert plugins to form 44 and you are adding the risk of screwing something up along the way for no benefit.
