Waggle132 Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I recently installed a landscape mod only to find it transformed everything into purple. When I removed it it was still all purple. I verified game files and still there. Please help.
sila Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Purple textures means you are missing textures, so you probably missed a requirement for the mod you added. 3
Seijin8 Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 @silais correct. This is the result of missing textures. Maybe you installed part of a new landscape mod but don't have the textures for it. Maybe you installed a patch for a mod you don't actually have. You can use the console to click on the specific object and then track down through xEdit what model that is pointing at, which you can then use to find which texture is missing and maybe the folder structure gives a hint about it.

That's just plain wrong. We have more than enough technical disinfo on this game already without you adding to it. Please stop. ah, I misunderstood then. Thanks for the correction, I'll delete it. 1

Someone told me that several years ago and then provided the solution to a recurring texture problem I had an a particular NPC at that time. No one had corrected me on the mistake before, I need to edit some older posts now so that people don't get the mistaken information through searches.

If the game encounters a disparity between what is in the save file and what your system is telling it to display (maybe because of adding an NPC overhaul to the load order), it may bug out and produce something that is missing "extra" information. That display issue can include texture data if there is a mismatch in the new NPC's own files (as is the case with some mod authors who rely on 3rd party tools and hacks to get the faces just the way they like). In that case, any missing textures would be the result of the facegen bug. There are a few SKSE mods that repair this bug for the SE/AE though, so it shouldn't come up anymore. 1
