Lagoon0654
Few days ago I was surprised after I booted up skyrim(Took a few week-long break) only to find a solitude guard mention about the dawnguard, then suddenly the dawnguard quest popped up. After my paranoia settled down(Checked my bank/credit card statements, my steam account, even changed my passwords) I noticed a legit copy of Dawnguard was added to my data folder. Anyways, I heard this was a rare fuck up by valve/bethesda, and a lot of people got it for free. Anyone else? Off to find some Dawnguard mods. Link to comment

Deep Red
I bought it a week or two after it was released for PC, unfortunately. However, I have a friend on steam who also reported getting a freebie from nowhere. It wasn't the Dawnguard dlc, but it was something equally as cool: a free dlc for CoD: Black Ops II. This was about a month ago though. My guess is that Steam is having random hiccups and giving out free stuff. Link to comment
Kaz Aanh
Basicaly everyone who was online received a "free" Dawnguard. You could check it via your Skyrim DLC tab oh and they removed it after 1-2 hours. It was kinda strange that my Skyrim started downloading a suspicious 700 mb update. Well maybe they've removed it from your account but data files of Dawnguard that has been downloaded are still on your HDD. Now I wonder what Bethesda is gonna do with this. Many people already started playing it and some are waiting for official response becouse they are aware of getting banned. There are also people who didn't knew how this DLC begins and started doing it becouse it looks like a normal sub-quest. We might get a soon 50% or 75% Dawnguard DLC off so people might buy it. But damage that has been done cannot be undone. ( I'm glad I havent' corrupted my save with Dawnguard or plugins ) Link to comment
winny257
something like this can never happen to me because I never allow a steam access to my PC! yes because everyone could come and grab me times without my permission just a few data on my computer. german \ deutsch ! so etwas kann mir niemals passieren , denn ich erlaube steam niemals einen zugriff auf meinen PC ! da könnte ja jeder kommen und mir ohne meine erlaubnis einfach mal so ein paar daten auf meinen rechner packen . Shaydow
You have no worries at all. If anything go into your Skyrim\data folder, find the dawnguard.BSA and dawnguard.esm, right click and copy, then paste them someplace else. If they DO delete them, you can just paste them back in. Yup I know, I'm telling you how to "pirate", but you're not really pirating, I mean they GAVE it to you. That esp and BSA is the same as any other mod you have ever downloaded. Skyrim itself works the same exact way. Again, I know it seems like I'm telling you how to pirate, but when it is their own mistake, honestly, they have no one to blame but themselves. If you think this is wrong just delete dawnguard.BSA and dawnguard.esm from your data folder and be done with it. Also, NO company, not even valve in their own steam system, has the right to delete ANYTHING from your computer without your permission. They may have accidently put it there, but they CAN'T delete it now that it is there. That is up to you. Imagine if any company in the world could just delete anything they wanted from your computer. Ya, no, lawsuits would be overwhelming Finders keepers, losers weepers.. Link to comment

Ya, no, lawsuits would be overwhelming Finders keepers, losers weepers.. Well thanks to you I went ahead and copied the esp/esm files to another location. Sadly, I don't enough morals to delete the files And yeah, I'm sure they're in their offices still pulling their hairs out. But hey, as you say, their mistake. And I know they wouldn'\t be able to delete the files, but hopefully they don't roll out some patch or code to prevent users from playing it. But judging from my play through lastnight, I'm thinking bethesda and valve are just gonna own up to their mistake and just let users play the mistakenly awarded DLC. Now that I think of it, I thought it was pretty weird for steam to have such a large update that one night, but never really bothered to look into it. Link to comment
