Getting Started in Oblivion.

So, I picked up Oblivion, I got a nice list of mods ready to be installed.

Problem is right off the bat they don't seem to be working properly.

I started with OBSE, I'm pretty sure it's installed right. I can't tell though.

Next I installed the DMRA,

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/42185/?

I just threw it into the Nexus Mod Manager, My character has the body, but no texture or bounce.

I don't know if there are certain tools I need to install or what. I know Skyrim had FNIS to load animations but I dunno about Oblivion.

And... that's as far as I got.

That's what you get for being impatient and rushing in installing stuff without checking :P

Try using the search and looking at some of the existing "Getting Started" threads to do with Oblivion first before making a new one :)

I've checked literately every single thread in the General and Technical Support forums about installing bodies but none seem to help.

According to the mod, I just drop everything into the data folder as it would be for any other mod. The only files in the archive is just a meshes folder and some modder resources.

Shouldn't there be more to it than that? Do I need the original body or something? Do I need to install separate textures? Is there something to load the animations?

I've installed it manually, I've installed it using OBMM, and the Nexus Mod manager (Which was probably the worst choice.)

I've spent hours debugging Skyrim by myself, you'd think this would be a lot easier.

Uninstall that POS NMM.  It is worthless for Oblivion.  It fucks up trying to install ini files and it has numerous other broken or missing things.

Instead use either OBMM or preferably Wrye Bash.

To have bouncing breasts you need three things:

1.  Weighted Body mesh - you will know this if it is labeled as bbb.

2.  BBB skeleton.  The latest version is Growlf's "universal skeleton".  Use the controllable version.

3.  BBB animations.  I recommend NoMaaM.

You can find all three above things at the Nexus.

Lastly you will need to archive invalidate via bsa redirection with either OBMM or Wrye Bash:  http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php?title=Oblivion_Mods_FAQ#Archive_Invalidation

Fore (the author of FNIS) made NoMaam just so you know.

As to animations, you don't need anything like FNIS.  Bethesda didn't fuck people over on customizing stuff for Oblivion, like they did with Skyrim.

Have fun.

I suggest downloading this http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/42033/? and using the bain option from Wrye bash. It includes the skeleton and weighted body Greg mentioned. It is an all in one pack.

Install and then download http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/35551/? you might need Oblivion Mod Manager for this one IIRC.

Finally, you might want to spice things a bit with a custom race and race/npc replacer. It all depends if you want to keep the vanilla look http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6bg655RlZyI/UOfZbiIDhVI/AAAAAAAAAWo/rSHBRz5n3aw/s1600/00.jpg or make it more JRPG like http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/images/136214/?

Alright, thanks to you guys I've finally managed to get things working. I think I can handle it from here.

However using the controllable skeleton... how does one control it? Scaling and such. Is that done ingame or using Nifskope?

Posted

Neither.

Controllable is merely its name.  Animations are what "control" the skeleton.  You make animations with Blender.  You can adjust scaling on races via the Construction Set.  I don't recommend doing so however as it can cause issues with some plugins.  Oblivion doesn't have a body slidder type mechanism.  That was newly introduced with Skyrim.
