ThatSeasonsGal Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Is a bit late and early on my eras. I could probably recite from memory everything between Egypt and the Fall of the Roman Empire and most things post 1750s
protocolk Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 the medieval period heretics and barbarians are intersting though, the last celtics and norses I mean. Also romans were amazing, I wonder how world wold have been if chrisrtyanity never happened, it wasnt the main reason for the fall of rome but weakened it unity a lot.
Millicent Bystander Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Also has a penchant for history. that is an interesting Idea, however I don't think it would be that different, Christianity displaced a bunch of other religions. now a world without any religion, well you can look to the third world for that, Pre-Spanish South America, Pre Columbus North America, Africa before the Dutch east India company.
ThatSeasonsGal Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Should help me make a history thread And actually, all those countries you mentioned have some sort of cult/religion depending. Voodoo is still super common in Africa
The Martian Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Should start a history thread and see where it goes. I am not sure if Leeroy meant it more like having a "main" or "central" religion instead of local belief systems?
Millicent Bystander Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 got me spot on, most Southern African tribes where shamanistic and had medicine women, in fact even today some companies will accept a Doctor's note from a traditional healer. Very little conflict between tribes in the places I mentioned before would be attributed to a conflict of religion, most of the time it was about strength or land, although now I think about it South America might have had religious war's back in their pre-colonial times a history thread could be fun, we could discuss things like the Marco Polo Bridge incident.
ThatSeasonsGal Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Has inspired me to create a History BBoF thread™ soon-ish
protocolk Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Also has a penchant for history. that is an interesting Idea, however I don't think it would be that different, Christianity displaced a bunch of other religions. now a world without any religion, well you can look to the third world for that, Pre-Spanish South America, Pre Columbus North America, Africa before the Dutch east India company. there were lots of religions there, but they were less known. The catholic church burned book and prevented knownledge for spreading for over 300 years, we actually lost knownledge, without it our tecgh would be more advanced. Also most "moral" bullshit are from christianity, in rome and greece homosexuality and other kinks were people options and no one gave a fuck (no pun intended). people who worshipped gods related to knownledge were always researching and sometimes even shared their discoveries for free, people could go o temples to get treated instead of paying like in the middle ages. The catholics kanda fucked up our world.
Millicent Bystander Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 has joined the long list of people with a bone to pick with the Catholic Religion. Lets not forget to blame the Romans.
The Martian Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Yes, let us blame the Romans, because apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us? Oh! And Leeroy seems to be an Archer, probably putting arrows in knees all the time!
Millicent Bystander Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 lol, isn't that in someone's signature, what I meant was it was the Roman emperor at the time who after seeing the rise of Christianity decided to adopt it as the official religion of the Roman empire, thereby spreading it across the continent. didn't AethyrMipe say something about a History thread oh and The Martian is far older(LL wise) than his post count lets out.
The Martian Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Doesn't realize that everyone starts to feel like a noob in the presence of people with 6k+ posts
Millicent Bystander Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 has something in the bottom right of his avatar that I've not noticed until now.
Millicent Bystander Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 ah, ok. forgot to say something interesting about the person above
