MCM is implemented in papyrus, so inspect your papyrus log or post it here. Note that the log has to be created from a session where you opened the MCM and tried to interact with it.

In my experience, the MCM buffers (for lack of a better descriptor) get filled up pretty quickly, so after configuring several mods, you may have to back out of the MCM to game, then re-enter to select a new mod to configure. Sometimes it occurs after configuring only one entry on one menu. Why? IDK. but exiting then re-entering usually allows me to continue.

One symptom I often encounter is the same thing you show above. a blank or partially blank menu

The quest running the MCM pages for some reason stops when another quest is started from within it. Maybe a game engine limitation. Typically mods shouldn't start quests from their MCM options as it makes configuring things really annoying. In this case however if it keeps happening randomly or is like this from the moment it is opened, there's something wrong on the papyrus side.

Perhaps so, but it doesn't seem to be a fatal issue,  so I simply back out, then re-enter the MCM structure to continue (if I intend to alter several mod configs, that is).

Or to say that whatever's going on in the background doesn't appear to undo or otherwise fail to save config steps made prior to the apparent "MCM lockup", it just seems to choke on any further requests during that particular "MCM session"

After a single change always close mcm to have the quest running the update.

Avoid changing several parameters the same time or even make changes on another menu.

All quests are blocked when mcm is open.
