LaEspada Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 So we were talking about logic, epistemology, and critical thinking in my philosopy class today and he brought this to class. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/post/texas-gop-rejects-critical-thinking-skills-really/2012/07/08/gJQAHNpFXW_blog.html Taken from the Texas GOP platform. "Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority." It's a consipiracy I say! Read more... It'll scare you. Also the premise went like this. If critical thinking skills are so important for us to function as citizens and human beings then why do we do it in such a half-ass manner (the way we "teach" it in grade school) or some people don't even get critical thinking "education" at all. Do you think that we should crack down and really promote critical thinking skills in grade school. Because the way it's taught currently is such a horrible piece of trash.
