Groovtama Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Freezing can come from many reasons, ex. partly defect graphics cards. More RAM may not help with freezing but more RAM is always better^^
Veladarius Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Download the Skyrim Performance Monitor from the Nexus and look at your Disk I/O stats. If it is constant then more memory would probably help as it should only be some spikes when you go from area to area or new cells. That said I would run at least 4gb anyways so everything is not fighting for ram. What are your system specs?

If you can afford it, you don't plan on upgrading your motherboard any time soon, and enjoy using your PC, I can only say, again, " more RAM can never hurt ". It won't just help Skyrim either. Although 4gigs is enough if you're on XP. Anything over that won't really help due to limitations in the OS. *EDIT* and if anyone ever says " ya well you don't need more than 4gigs of ram because Skyrim can't use more than that " ( other than windows XP ), smack them, and remind them the rest of the computer, including, you know, WINDOWS, also needs some of that RAM to run, not just Skyrim. As well as any other start ups you have running, any open web browsers ( chrome is great but MAN is it a ram hog ), etc. VRAM is also a huge factor in the equation ( the amount of ram on your video card ), as well as how much hard drive swap file space you have.
MikeMetal Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Well, for modern games I would say 4GB are a must. 2GB is just too low, considering windows will always take some for itself. Win XP would take around 600 MB, leaving me with 3.3GB back when I had it. Now I have 8GB and win 7, and it takes almost double, ~1200MB. That's not including programs that run at startup like skype or antivirus. Imagine running that with only 2GB, your game is bound to crash almost anywhere outdoors. Although RAM wouldn't help with general freezing as I don't think Skyrim or any application can freeze if you run out of memory, it'll simply plain crash. In any case, you should get more ram, 4GB is ok, 8GB is more than enough.
