assassin394 Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Can someone help me please. I have spent the entire afternoon to troubleshooting this to no avail So basically I have the original loose files LMCC, Real HD Face Textures 2k, Cridowskin....etc installed and everything work fine, no brown face problem or anything but I noticed there is a lot of stutter when changing cell. I then pack everything into a BSA file. LMCC 2k face texture, Real HD Face 2k, Cridowskin. The files are overwrite in a correct order of course. Now the stutter is gone and I can tell the bsa is working because my Nora face have the correct texture and make up, no brown face or anything. BUT the problem is Piper now have no eyes brow. I tried to reinstall all the related mods, repack BSA, nothing work. The only thing that worked is if I installed Cridowskin as loose files instead of packing them into BA2. I hasn't meet other companion yet but so far only Piper have this problem, Trashcan carla and other female npc in Diamond city don't have this problem. Cridowskin as BSA file - Piper potato face, no eyebrown Cridowskin installed as loose files

This is a common problem when using at least the seamless version. There's an easy fix. Open Piper in Looks Menu. Choose the Face option, and pick any face part to edit that offers the Scale Up and Scale down option (S and W keys). Hit S one time, and then W one time, and her face should fix itself. Then go into the Extras tab and enable seamless. The problem may pop up again, but the fix I outlined will work every time to make her face look normal again. 1
MrFuturehope Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 I knew it! Piper is a synth! Sorry, lol I just had to, without eyebrows she kinda looks like Arnold in Terminator 1 in this scene lol Â

So the problem have nothing to do with the texture being pack as BA2? How come the problem automatically go away if I just install Cridowskin as loose files? edit: I don't know how but it worked. Thank you so much :)) edit 2: it worked. But everytime I restart the game or load a save. She have brown face again Edited April 16, 2023 by assassin394

Loose files will always overwrite packed files, somewhere, somehow, you have a bad/1k texture that gets overwritten when Cridow is loose, but not when it is packed. Piper in particular is bad for this, as she seems to inherit all the properties from anything that affects default presets 2 and 5, or 7? Can't remember exactly which ones any more.

Do you know what can cause this? Also not just Piper, Cait is affect too. Also even when I install Cridow as loose file. MO2 detect no conflict with other mod. Could it be the 1k texture from the vanilla game?? All the vanilla texture file is also pack in BA2. Â

Since we have the same problem, but use mostly different face mods; at a wild guess, I'm going to say something may have gotten missed in the 2k LMCC or Real HD face. Human Curie is fine along with most settlers, however, every once and awhile I come across a settler that also has brown face; so something in that particular set of face generation isn't working properly. 1

You have the same problem? I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I hasn't get Curie from Vault 88 yet and I can't spawn the Synth version of her via console command for some reason. But I'm pretty sure every other female NPC in game looks fine. It fact. If I enable Piper/Cait high poly head in high poly face redux mcm menu. Their face looks normal again until the next time when I reload save. How do you fix it use CK or FO4Edit? I know that is like a band aid fix but its better than nothing. Btw. I think I maybe just give up on this. I don't really like Piper and Cait that much anyway. I do like Curie though so I hope this issue won't affect her. I also download Ivy companion and Ellen and Healther new update from nexus. Who need Piper and Cait anyway? Edited April 25, 2023 by assassin394 1
Omicr0n Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 (edited) Just ran into this problem as well. I'm using FG, HiPoly Faces REDUX, LMCC, Real HD Face 2K, and Cridowskin. Everything looked good as loose files, but I was getting framerate drops when transitioning into new areas, and I figured it was from NPCs being loaded in with the HD skin textures, so I wanted to try packing things into ba2s to see if it would reduce or eliminate the stuttering. I mainly just wanted to pack Cridowskin, but because I had that loading last in the stack, that meant having to pack the loose files from the other mods as well to keep the overrides in the same order. I packed everything up, made sure the plugins were in the correct order to keep the overrides the same, and now I'm having issues with random rusty faces and missing eyebrows on NPCs. Omicr0n Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 (edited) At this point I think I've reached the conclusion that random rusty face/missing eyebrow NPCs is the tradeoff for the performance gains from packing stuff in ba2s. I've tried different setups of loose vs packed files, moving texture mods around in the load order, and nothing has entirely solved the problem. The issue doesn't seem permanent though, and mods like Rusy Face Fix Redux or refreshing the NPCs face with LooksMenu seem to fix the problem. It's just annoying to have to do that at all, but I guess it's worth it considering the performance gains I've noticed from packing everything. Edited May 5, 2023 by Omicr0n

Difficult to say; the only two mods I'm using that you also have are LMCC and possibly Real Face, can't remember right now. I was going to re test a few things; as going through my load order revealed a very old 1k eyebrow mod that I forgot I had. Installed the 2k version instead, but never got around to fully testing it.  Haven't had a case of Rusty face since then, but I also haven't seen Piper or Cait yet either.Â

I haven't seen Piper or Cait yet. Just testing at the beginning of the game though, I'm getting a rusty face on Marcy Long, and rusty face/missing eyebrows on Mama Murphy. I'm using 2 different NPC replacers: Companion and NPC's Face replacer All-in-one Pack and Wasteland Heroines Replacer and Presets All in One, so the issue could somehow be related to them but at this point I'm not knowledgeable enough to test any further. It's just weird that everything looked fine as loose files, but packed causes issues, even though all of the overrides are still happening in the same order.  Edit: Also I think if it was a resolution mismatch then the rusty face fixes or refreshing them in LooksMenu wouldn't actually work. Seems more like the rusty face engine bug or a facegen issue. Edited May 5, 2023 by Omicr0n 1

Did you ever fix the issue? I don't even have any mod that replacer Piper/Cait but the brown face still happen

I also haven't done a real playthrough since packing the various texture mods, so I'm not entirely sure how widespread the problem is in my game yet.
destrux Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 I'm having this same exact issue but running all 1K face stuff. I even went as far as packing the entire actor/character folder into one archive (making sure zero loose files were left) and loading it's ESP dead last in my load order.. and certain female settlers, piper and cait still suffer this. Only doing slm on them and refreshing their face by altering it or reloading their preset fixes it, but it goes back to brown after a few minutes and so far the brown face fix mods I've tried don't seem to fix it even temporarily.
sinsemilla Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Sometimes more mods will fix the problem! https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/46870 Maybe try see if a custom version gives the same issues (If u use a manager to quickly install/uninstall and test, load it after the other beauty replacers) However if there are more NPC in ur setup that use the same reference maybe u will run in to the problem again. Never using facetexures above 1k Usually avoids this problems. Im using this one and 4k bodytextures no problem: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/57815-hot-mama-npcs-female-npc-overhaul/
