[mod] Stable Elves

Ok, I've just added the 1.0.4 version.   I've resized the images, and on my machine that fixed the characters being shoved too far to the right off of the panels.  Unfortunately with vanilla UI the tops of their heads do get cut off a bit.  I'm not sure I'm going to fix that or not.  IMO things look better with the UI overhaul dynamic mod.

This update also removed some vestigial files from where I at one point tried to define the elves as being their own species archetype.  But then I forgot about those files when I just made them biologicals.

@Variety thanks for stepping up to the plate with the quick fix.  I'll try to update the mod and upload a fix when I have time.  I just have a lot of stuff on my plate IRL right now.

As for extra portraits/the inklings, I haven't made much progress with them.  I haven't had much time to sit down and experiment with my prompts, and as a whole I have been unsatisfied with the quality of the outputs.  I've just had other projects in my life that have been taking priority.

Ok, I've uploaded a new version of the mod that should work with 3.12.  A lot of the mods in my normal mod set are messed up, so I had to make a fresh mod set to test out stable elves.  At a glance it looks like things are working now, but I only took the time to check empire creation and start a fresh game from year 0.  I haven't had time to play a new campaign of stellaris.

The changes in 3.12 might make it easier to eventually add extra portraits to accommodate cases like cyberization or synthetic ascension, but don't start holding your breath I don't see myself having time to explore that for a while.

Try making a completely new mod playset.  I had to do that before I could get any of the updated portrait packs to work.   FWIW, I normally the launch the game with the Irony mod loader, I don't think that should make a difference though.

@hm76 @Iapeo

Apparently I had made an error in the *.mod file that was bundled with the mod.  It was supposed to have a relative path to the rest of the files in the mod.  Irony apparently was able to catch the problem and correct it on my end when I tried to play by automatically editing my copy of the *.mod file and appending the full path to the mod's files.

I've uploaded a new version of the mod with the problem corrected.  Hopefully this should run now.

Hey i know this might not be best place to ask but i was wondering if anyone here might know the name of a mod for stellaris that i remember using awhile ago that added a nsfw portraits of the Sith pureblood species from star wars i can't remember the name of it so i cant find the blasted thing.

I have noticed that all pops of the elf species have the same portrait for me. Any idea why? I also cannot modify the species, hovering over the "Create Template" button just reads, "we cannot modify this species"

EDIT: I fixed this eventually, I do not think it was this mod's fault. For some reason the species in my save was set to use one of the leader portraits rather than all the portraits (I fixed this by editing the portraits in the gamestate file to portrait="StableElfPortraits"), and had the can_be_modified flag = 0 (several other species had this set too, no idea why). Not sure how this all happened but things are working ok now. Thanks for the mod.

I have tried using this mod and other portrait mods on this page, but they don't work. The species do not appear. They are all updated to 3.12 like this, but they don't work for me.

If you're still having trouble, all I can think of off of the top of my head is to create an entirely new mod list and just start adding mods one by one.  It's a bit tedious but it's the most surefire way to see which mods are causing problems.

I haven't played stellaris in a while.  I've been busy with IRL stuff.  Had to pick up the pieces after some hard disk failures and a GPU failure.  I have played around with some new loras and the "pony" model for stable diffusion, but I don't have any updates for the mod since I simply haven't been satisfied with the quality of my outputs.

I still want to expand the mod to include a set of inklings as a 2nd species.  Time has felt like it's been flying by, and I've just been really busy with my home life.  I've also had problems with the AI outputs in that the overall quality of the images wasn't what I considered to be acceptable.  I've also been dreading the prospect of manually removing the backgrounds again, and have been trying to find good tools for helping remove backgrounds.

I think I've finally gotten over the stumbling block of thinking up a "military look" that I think suits the inklings.  In my head I think of inklings as being athletic, so I wanted that to be depicted in their outfits.  I wasn't happy with my attempts to put them in different kind of dress blue uniforms like I had done with the elves.  Eventually I was reminded of the archetype of the action movie "commando jungle fighter" soldier.  These characters were fitness paragons and showed up in popular media in movies like Rambo and Predator, and in games like Metal Slug.  So I decided to try to make an Inkling but more like Metal Slug, and I like the results.

On the topic of streamlining background removal, I still haven't found a local solution that I like.  But novelAI's image tools have a background removal option that has been very effective in the few test cases that I've done.  I'm sorely tempted to subscribe to their opus level for a month to both play around with their new language model and get enough tokens to remove the backgrounds for a whole species worth of portraits.  Their tool output the following three options when given the above as input.  The colors are noticeably warmer in one output, and the details all vary a bit around the edges, but I think any of these would be fine when feathered around the edges and shrunk down to portrait resolutions.

Sadly I still don't have an ETA for when I might actually finish making the addition.  I'm busy with work right now and am going to be stuck doing overtime until around thanksgiving.  When I'm burnt out from work I don't feel like working on the mod and generally would rather spend time catching up with friends on discord calls while playing whatever the new flavor of the month is.

For anyone who's interested, I redid this mod with the elves replacing one of the existing humanoid species instead of being a new species so that I could use the elves but still have achievements (since annoyingly, adding a new species disables achievements, whereas replacing an existing one does not), and since I went to the effort of making this for my own use, I figured that I'd make it available in case anyone else was looking to do the same. Of course, if you don't care about achievements, then this provides no benefits over the original mod, since it should be functionally the same other than the fact that this version replaces an existing species, whereas the original adds a new one.

If you're still wanting a background remover, I'm content with using this free site here. The image output size is pretty decent (max size being 1280x1280), specially for making mods, and the crop quality is pretty good most of the times. as an example:
