SMP on NPCs only works when Player is facing them.

Title, having an issue where SMP on NPC's only works when not the camera but the players model is facing the npcs i.e. the players third person model has line of sight of the npc with SMP enabled. when the player is facing away from them all SMP physics are disabled for the npc. I have a standard SMP installation with Faster-SMP. Does anyone know what could cause this? I imagine it is a config setting I am missing somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

It's not a bug, this is SMP setting for better performance. If you're using FSMP there are different options with descriptions, recommended setting has 45 degrees physics detection both sides of player model

FSMP is not standard, so you do not have a 'standard' installation, simple as.
