Why is Fallout 4 a Masterpiece?

It would be so much better described your way. I wonder how much comes down to budget and development time? After all, every decision you make ripples across all the past ones and in intersecting ways with so much else going on. All I'm saying is it's very difficult to keep track of all those possibilities and results without soon running into paradoxes. Unlike real life where there are few actual limits to your behavior, in a finite state video game it's difficult to simulate. 

I hear ya, though. Maybe a reboot, a stripped down version of FO4 is what we really need. Take the entire main storyline out altogether. I don't want to be Nate or Nora at all (who I just rename anyway so what was the point of prenamed characters?). Sort of more like Fallout 76 except 76 sucked because fuck playing Fallout online. It's my sandbox and I don't want to share.

He self admittedly guides the production of the fallout series since Beth purchased the game rights and he is even steering Amazon's Fallout TV series away from any Gameplay, "It will be in the same world space, that's about all" so he is solely to blame for the issues of the gameplay workings. I should email him my terminal code, lol! I rooted through the functions of FO4 terminals and made my own that does everything IRL that the game ones do, except for connecting to turrets (only because I don't have electrically-triggered machine guns, or any machine guns for that matter, but I do have 330 volt/15 amp solid state relays). Canada's gun laws are shit. Maybe I'll go with something air-soft if I can convince the missus that this is a wise way to spend family finances. Wish me luck with that.

Where to start.....

Spring 2020, Covid, sick of Xbox one's limitations, ? I think I will buy a PC and learn to mod Skyrim SE, Shopping, shopping, A bunch of names I never heard of, Operating system details that meant little to me (I never touched a PC for anything other than Email or shopping prior to 2/2020), Ah, Alienware, Seen those, so I bought an Alienware Aurora Darkside of the Moon, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core Processor, 16 Gb RAM, 64 bit os. 1 Tb hard disc drive with a 1/2 Tb ssd that drive C was on, D drive was handling everything from Steam to my back-ups etc. It was always redlining! In other words, overstuffed with data like Uncle Pete after Thanksgiving Dinner.

Well it was fine till I learned a little, Then I bought 2-2 TB ssd storage drives to put Steam on and my Game files, Total $400.00, Then the disc drive died 1 month after my warranty expired, $100.00 for a 2 Tb Disc Drive replacement.

Why would a Gaming PC manufacturer put a Disc Drive in a PC that is supposed to be High End??

Here is the sad part     PC               $1895.00

                                   2 SSDs          $400.00

                                  Disc Drive     $100.00

                                                       $2395.00  USD

 

So, I could have bought a better unit right off the bat, instead of thinking I bought a unit that would do what I needed. Also the cooling fans are real, I mean real noisy!

Dell Support sucks, I bought a $500.00 ssd drive to replace my Disc drive and the instructions for installing it was nothing like what the inside of my PC looked like so I called them again, you know they wanted me to buy an extended warranty before they would tell me where to plug their overpriced part in?!!? 1 month out of the 1 year warranty. 1 year. And after that year they would not even take this one in on trade, "we will Recycle it for you". Ha I bet!

 

 

 

 

Oh, and I live in the Country, Satellite internet from the guy who built "the Spruce Goose" 45 Gb during the day, 50 Gb during the night for the month. $120.00 USD

Believe me there is nothing "High Speed" about it!!

I have said it before....Strip the main storyline, quests, factions, Drop the open world off to Modders, see what happens.

Edit= which is real easy for me to say not knowing the first thing about modding and little about PC's, I am just an old fart who watched these things when they spit out punch cards an thought, What a waste of time and effort! Boy was I wrong!

If then the statistics about the completed side quests are added, the number of players who have thoroughly explored or used a purchased game so far moves - probably often in the single-digit percentage range.

A game manufacturer who is only interested in the pure sales figures - so which user group is the main focus when considering a new game...???

So let's be happy about one of the biggest "work accidents" in game history called "Bugdestha" - not because the games are that bad - but because they are also open to extensive modding

I have put in an insane number of hours in Skyrim and FO4, both are on my list of favorite games with mods making them vastly more replayable. The problem for FO4 for me comes mostly from some of the design choices directly fighting the replayablity. Too many of the quest options force you to complete large sections of the main story over and over whereas in Skyrim if I wish to play a mage I am not required to do anything beyond get to the college. In FO4 as an example, lets say I want to get Curie as an early game follower for some story I have made in my head, its not long before she wants her synth body but thats not possible without completing the main quest all the way to Valentine introducing you to Amari first. 

The second issue is Skyrim offers playthrough styles far more varied then FO4. Mage, thief, warrior, archer with even more variety of sub class combos. FO4 offers little here especially considering how unsatisfying melee combat is, at least for me. Its sneak or not sneak with a few different choices of gun type.

 

Dont get me wrong, once again I love FO4....but Skyrim is the masterpiece imo, and I hope Starfield is closer to that than FO4.

exactly.  My answer is it's not.  Vanilla Fo4 is so boring and broken that I could never go back.  It took 2GB of mods (Xbox one X) to make it enjoyable again and would love to play it on my PC to install even more mods.

Hm. Found the gameplay loop enjoyable, and I liked the settlement system, mostly cause I always wanted to build my own lone survivalist raider shack, and I like building stuffs in general
The world was okay to explore but I don't know... Beside the USS constitution and the Glowing Sea, I just didn't have much fun (including NW & FH)
Gunplay & Legendaries system... eh. Technically better maybe (*cough lever action rifle*). I still prefer the old uniques system. Something doesn't sit right with looting an Instigating Gauss, on a radroach above all. Renders most uniques completely pointless to get too. No pain, all gain.

And that's pretty much all I got for positive points (Not really positives?‍♀️)

The bad parts are pretty... overwhelming, I could probably write a trilogy about it
The worst for me was :
_Roleplay constant microagressions - Nora/Nate's unescapable shoes
_Insipid story/dialogues/quests/factions
_5% of an alignement chart - dumb good vs dumb evil
_Factions' "hoops" of availability - World on standby, waiting for imminent savior
_Mediocre Perks - No traits - No  perk checks (minus the ones they forgot to scrap ?)

Roleplaying my usual raider junkie was painful
Don't think it's all bad but definitely not a masterpiece imo
