kurisu7885 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Ok, so, I had no idea where else t ospeak about this, anyway, here goes. Last time ,as I've said, I was hacked. I contacted Yahoo support, though in a panic I'm not sure I got the right number. I'll say the guy I got had an, exotic accents, can't place it. Anyway, they got me my account back while using Teamviewer, which might have been a mistake. In any case ,they said there were numerous things worng with my PC(for the record, no one had control of it, and after that happened the first time, I made sure my firewall was active and to do scans) and was trying to sell me some sort of tech support package for around 200 bucks. Now that I'm thinking on it, I should likely just forget it existed as later when I spoke to the fraud center for my bank, I was informed there was an attempted charge in the UK to soemthing called Cyberknight, on top of that, the company in question, I couldn't reach them via email. So, like I said, I should likely forget about this company as, thinking on it, they DID help me, but it hardly seems legit, plus I'm not sure I got to the ACTUAL Yahoo support line.I already changed my Yahoo passcode again just to be safe.
Zadil Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Such an intrusion and its consequences must be... annoying, to put it mildly. But at least you ran additional scans and changed your password, so that should limit the damages that could result from this. The assistance you received does sound a bit shady, especially the offer. Most scams rely on intimidation but don't have much else going for them in terms of leverage without direct control to your system, so chances are that you won't hear from them again either way.Good luck getting the situation sorted.

Well, it turns out the bank shut down my card and is issuing me a new one, and I looked at the companyas i nthe one in the UK, they seem legi, but, the worst they can do is just not cover me, and the shop that built me PC already does that. I might see if I can take it in to them and have them do some security stuff to it. So long as they don't install Norton. Was offered when they started building it, I politely turned it down as, really, fuck Norton. In any case, I'll feel most at ease once my Steam account is bakc under my control.
DarkNinja13 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Also, go into the Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel (if you haven't already) and make sure that any programs they had you install are not there - if they are, uninstall them. My mother gets constant "tech support" calls from "Microsoft" because they want her to install their software (which ALWAYS finds malware - even on a virgin computer) and pay them $50/month for her "protection". I chewed the guy's ass (even slid in a few death threats), uninstalled the shit he had her install, sat my mother down, and explained to her that the program she currently has installed (Microsoft Security Essentials) is the only thing she needs for as little as she does with her computer. It's one of the few Microsoft programs that's with a shit

It's one of the few Microsoft programs that's with a shit They didn't have me install anything actually, they had me run Teamviewer from the downloader thing. Hell, it's the only way I will run it.

Hildegardell Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Adblock, noscript, Chatzilla, and then all the Java and Flash bullshit that is required for that stuff to work. That's about it.
kurisu7885 Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 Well, I broke down and got Noscript, and already had adblock. Turns out the company that helped me is some kind of front, I searched the number and numerous people spoke of getting ripped off. Turns out the company is in singapore or new dheli or soemthing, so if I don't pay there isn't shit they can do.
