Hybrys Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 (edited) Hello, I've got a pathing problem. I'm new to modding in the sense that I am learning as I go with far more fails than successes but that's the learning process. I'm having issues with FNIS. I installed my skyrim that I want to mod outside of the regular program(x86) and program files, making an entirely new one. I've been doing this very gingerly because the last time I did this I just stuck FNIS in the steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\date\tools and it didn't give me errors but I now don't even have that path. Skyrim isn't in my steam apps and I've moved the FNIS.exe and associated files into what I thought was an appropriate place but it's giving me errors like this; FNIS Behavior V7.6 XXL 11/13/2022 11:27:30 PM Generator: C:\Myrim\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe >>Warning: Bad installation. Generator not run from <Skyrim_Data>\Tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users. If you use a mod manager, run FNIS from its list of supported tools.<< Skyrim SE 64bit: ??.??.?? - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\ (Steam) >>Warning: Expected generator path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users not found<< I'm using MO2, when I try to set up FNIS going through MO2's data tab and add it as an executable, I get the same set of errors. Essentially, how do I end up pathing this properly? Edited November 14, 2022 by Hybrys
Just Don't Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 (edited) If you simply moved your game folder to another location all the install info in the Windows registry is still pointing to the default location. Plenty of programs look at this info (xEdit, FNIS...). If you want to change your games or Steam location you should do it so using the Steam features to relocate folder and install paths (there should be an official Steam article about this but I can't find it atm). In any other case it'd be as easy as open your MO2 Executables (Tools>Executables/2 gears icon) and confirm the binary is pointing to your current GenerateFNISforUsers.exe (you can still try this if you haven't done so already, using the data tab to add the exe is a nice shortcut but the Executables option will give you the whole picture of the paths). Hybrys Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 Thank you very much Just Don't. The first thing I had done was going through MO2's executables and trying to add it. The link to the guide that you posted was incredibly useful. I've got the problem fixed. Again, thank you so much.
