Modding Conflicts and Unknown Issues

Recommended Posts

Hey. I'm gonna get to the point, my game is pretty messed up. Which isn't surprising given I have little experience modding games and I generally refer to mod managers. It also doesn't help that I installed 174 of them probably.

But, to be more specific I've got issues like, on the main menu screen, moving the cursor down to the "Load" option makes the game decline any further input. Occasionally the game will crash as soon as I load into the world, and then other times it runs fine.

I've also got issues with model conflicts. Werewolves have two schlongs at once (May be a conflict involving Moonlight Tales), Dragons spawned via the spells provided by Hentai Creatures always use the same skin, Female Kahjiit have untextured lines on their body.

Alt-Tabbing out of the game creates a cursor on the screen when I tab back in.

After an undetermined amount of time has passed, random textures, especially the ones on the bodies of entities, turn black, then the game begins to stutter more and more until it eventually crashes.

I've kind of just been dodging these issues because I knew facing them solo would be foolish given my lack of experience, I'd likely end up making things worse. So now I'm going to defer to the superior knowledge and experience of the community.

Attached is a papyrus log, it probably won't be as helpful as the load order, but it details what happened behind the scenes the last time I ran a test.

Most likely. Unfortunately modding is not plug & play.

You should build your mod collection gradually, starting with only the base functionality mods like

* XP Skeleton

* Sexlab framework

* Sexlab aroused

* Sexlab Anim Loader

* Schlong mod

* Racemenu mods

* SkyUI

* UIExtensions

* Animations

* Sex scene trigger mod

Once you have tested that sex functionality works as expected for humans, then you can add creature functionality

* Creature framework

* MoreNastyCritters

* Creature schlong mod

* Sexlab Aroused Creatures

* Creature animations

Once creature setup is working then you can add specific creature mods like werewolves etc.

Same applies to visual mods. Add them gradually to make sure there are no visual bugs before adding more visual mods.

Also make sure you know how to use Bodyslide to build body, clothes and armors properly.

In fact, it does not help. From what you say, it sounds more like a problem with the installation order . In this order, Alternative Start is accepted, to avoid the prologue

From what I've gathered so far, I'm going to need to uninstall everything and start from scratch, because the current order of installation is not optimal.

Also I should've specified, it's not clothing or armor that turns black, it's their whole body, including their skin. I don't know if that changes anything.

I've installed a different version of Alternate Start, because I've found that Alternate Start causes memory leaks and taxes the papyrus overtime. It seems nice at the start, but the assets it uses are never unloaded, and the scripts are still running.

I've managed to fix the issue with the dragons being all the same skin. It was a Plugin called "HCOS Behemoth" and it was overwriting every other model.

On a sidenote: I have no idea how to use the Bodyslide program. I only installed it because multiple mods stated it was a requirement, so I installed it.

So is that what I should do? Start fresh and begin at the most essential programs and mods, make sure they come first, then move onto others?

Two schlongs on werewolf: Easy: Go to SOS MCM. Then enter the first addon (you know, the ones called smurf addons etc), scroll to the bottom of the list where all races are listed, and untick werewolves. Untick this on all three addons in the SOS MCM. Problem most likely solved. You didnt provide a pic but I bet this is the issue.

Regarding the Alt-tabbing and the cursor thing. I had this in the early days too. It should be very easy as well to get rid of. I can't really remember what I did, but if you look in this thread there's many things for you to try:

This is only me thinking loud:

It might be something related to your choice of ENB. Or it could be an error with the mesh itself. If it's only bodies I don't believe the latter is the cause since those mesh files are wellused by now and it would be a big problem for many. It could also be that your rig is running of juice (GPU) combined that you are on LE. I had black bodies on high texture followers and my own character once in a while when I had ENB Realvision installed together with Fairskin 4K. Back then I also had an older graphic card installed. Today I don't suffer from that.

If you where me ?, I'd first install lower texture files for the things that occur black. If it does not help, use another type of ENB while still keeping the low textures installed. If problem is gone, then reinstall the high quality textures and consider keeping that new ENB.

I wouldn't reinstall Skyrim for this. I'd rather figure out what is going on. It will help you later on.

For new people wanting to mod a lot, who do not know what they are doing - I recommend using wabbajack and installing a list like Masterwork or a basic Skyrim list of essential mods (patches, etc)

Wabbajack is an automated installation program, and works best if you have a Nexus paid account (otherwise you have to click to accept each mod in turn). With a good list it will install, patch and set the game up for you.

Graphics card is not the issue. I don't want to brag but I can handle RDR2 at 60 FPS, so I doubt it's that. I'm not exactly sure though if I have anything related to an ENB installed, but I don't remember installing anything like that. I do think it might be a conflict between a mesh/skin texture mod, and a different graphic mod. Don't think it's an ENB though, if there is, I'll have to uninstall it because I'm sure I don't/didn't know what I am doing.

Could you tell me how to use Wabbajack? I looked up "Masterwork" but didn't find anything related to a tool I could use.

Sure.

Wabbajack is a program, found here: https://www.wabbajack.org/

  1. You install the app on your PC and launch it. You can then search for a mod list that you want to install (you can filter via the game). Select a drive (it needs a lot of free space) and let the program create the downloads folder. Then you need to allow the program to access your login here, on the Nexus and probably one of Megaupload or similar (where very large files are stored). Wabbajack will then download all of the files in sequence.
  2. You also need a clean install of your game. Delete Skyrim SSE and the steam folder, and the folder in my documents where .ini files are stored. Reinstall Skyrim from steam, then launch it once. Do not mod it, let wabbajack do everything.
  3. It is best if you have a paid Nexus account as this gives instant unlimited downloads, if not, you have to click through each file in the wabbajack app.
  4. Each mod list will come with a read me, which you must read!
  5. When the download is complete, Wabbajack will install all of the mods and patches for you. All you need to do is follow any additional instructions in the read me.

The NSFW wabbajack lists are masterstroke and Tsukiro. Mod lists are active on wabbajack when all the files are accessible by the program. If a list is offline, it needs to be updated, as a mod has been updated.

Alright thanks. It should be noted though that I'm using the original Skyrim Legendary Edition, not the Special Edition. But I know what you meant. What precisely is a mod list? And where can I find one? Can I make my own? I assume they act as a collection of mods that are all intended to be installed in a specific sequence or order, thus avoiding any conflicts or unintentional overwriting. After I'm done with the mod list(s) can I then attempt to mod it manually if I find anything I'd like to add in the future? Or does Wabbajack have options for that as well?

Posted

Ahha, then you can search Skyrim LE lists.

Yes, a mod list is a group of mods and patches that an author has put together that links to the mods for download (vs a mod pack, which is when they add all the mods together as a download). Originally mod lists were simply a list on a webpage with associated links and instructions. Wabbajack simply automates this, making complex lists and patching a breeze.

They almost always use Mod Organiser 2 which is has a function called profiles. When the list is installed you can create a new profile and add or untick mods (don't delete). If you mess up, delete the profile and go back to the original - this will restore the list.

I have a Skyrim SE list which I did not change and a fallout list which I have added over 100 mods (Skyrim is less forgiving than Fallout).

So I should give up using Vortex to modify Skyrim and switch to a different mod organizer?

On top of this, I'll also need to purge Skyrim of modifications and reset it to vanilla?

Posted

I cannot comment on Vortex, as I have no used it for years and once I became familiar with MO2 I never looked back.

Wabbajack is always MO2 - but this is also installed by the program.

I would pick a mod list from Wabbajack, they almost all have a Discord channel and read me - check out what they say. As a rule, you have to do a completely clean reinstall of Skyrim, including deleting all folders in MyDocuments and steam.

So, where should I go from here? I just reinstalled the game after clearing it of everything. The only thing I'm not sure I did was fully remove FNIS before I uninstalled it. And these lists have a drawback, they don't have everything I want, and most of them are already customized to a specific individual.
