kurisu7885
Ok, so, last night, I was just doing my own thing on the net ,as usual, when a chat window pops up. It had no specifics, it only said Chat, then I right clicked the icon in my tray, it said NPP or something ot that effect. Someone started speaking to me, apparently they knew my internet history, and had siezed control of my system, even locking me out as admin as well as making my icons and taskbars/system trays vanish. I did a system restore, and it's no longer happening, but, I am wondering if anyone here knows what in the actual fuck happened, and how to prevent it in the future Link to comment
Ark of Truth
You have a virus by the sounds of it or someone has installed some control software on your PC using malware or a virus. The ONLY way to make sure it gone is to completely reformat your machine. What antivirus you using? Link to comment

D_ManXX2
Try checking if remote access is on ?? normally when you fully install a clean windows, this option is on, by disabling it there is no way they can manually take control of your pc. Also make sure to use good firewall. not the crappy windows one. Link to comment

kingkong
this is more like a troyen it is something you have downloaded or an e-mail recieved and opened. there is a possibilitie to have a remote access with activ x and java (but i do not know how it works) as it is a open door. More often you can have a lot of problemes if you are running win xp and downloading from media share and 4share (i blame directly ) . to prevent it you need to put attention to what you download and from where, and have the last win 7/8, java, active x software with the last update a must. you alway have the need of an antyivirus no exeption. formel
As for a Java I recomend to use NoScript ( I think it is available for almost every browser). With it you can easly controll which websites are alloud to execute javascripts. Link to comment

kurisu7885
There is a Jave exploit that has been plaguing E-Mails of late (supposedly the latest update fixes it). also going online to seek computer/software support you really have to watch "who" your actually getting in touch with, especially those "claiming" to be support for brand names. Any place wanting you to give control of your computer to them "hangup" 99.99% of the time it is a scam. any kind of unannounced popup chat that isn't associated with your current browser (like google chat, AIM etc.) is a phishing scam. Roger that, hard lesson learned. Link to comment
