katrina.balanchuk Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 After long struggle and amany many horus of trouble shooting the game worked well, but then I had a CTD and on restart of game its as if the resolution has been turned down to fill only the upper left of my screen. the rest shows desktop. or as if the game suddenly went to a different display format. I went on the youtube There they showed a "fix" for this "well known" issue the ini preference files. I changed the ini files but it did nothing even after save of the .ini and then restart Next I noticed the .ini file had a resolution display in it. So I changed that to match the resolution of my monitor Still no effect. The only thing I can do it go into monitor display options and grow the "apps display" to filla bigger portion of the monitor at a significant cost of resolution. I have it at 125% display still shows quite a bit of my desktop in game and I love resolution form this enlargement ( not to mention immersion) Any ideas?
katrina.balanchuk Posted September 11, 2022 Author Posted September 11, 2022 PS: I applied a workaround. Went to my settings changed monitor resolution to match whats in the .ini file. 720x1080 Lost a lot of resolution this way (I just bought a nice 4k monitor just to play modded FO4) But at least it fills out the screen. I do not know why I cannot put in my resolution numbers into the preference .ini file and have it fill out my screen. something happend during that CTD to one of my FO4 files. I do not want to reinstall a clean game once again because a) there is no guarantee it will fix problem and b) I am worried some or all of my previous mod problems will return if I once more start form scratch.
steelpanther24 Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Does your Fallout4Prefs.ini say this? bTopMostWindow=0 bMaximizeWindow=0 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=1 iSize H=1080 iSize W=1920
katrina.balanchuk Posted September 12, 2022 Author Posted September 12, 2022 No, when I inspected it it said. bTopMostWindow=0 bMaximizeWindow=0 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=0 iSize H=720 iSize W=1280 (as does my no longer perfectly pristine) back up on a separate drive from a month ago. I never changed this part in it so I know it was original. I experimented with setting bFull Screen=1 and the game refused to start up ( black screen) I also experimented with setting it to iSize H=1080 iSize W=1920 But is still started up small format. So now it is back to bTopMostWindow=0 bMaximizeWindow=0 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=0 iSize H=720 iSize W=1280 And I set my monitor resolution to match 720x1280 and the game is playable, though of course I miss the nice crispness from the 1080x1920 resolution monitor I have and if I dont revert to stock surfing and going on forums is odd since everything is giant font. game ran fine at that resolution for days. I did a few restarts too hoping it would fix but to no avail. At least its playable.
steelpanther24 Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Your video drivers are up to date and working?

I dont know what that is or where they migth be, ☺️ But the game worked fine for days of play with this new monitor before this happend from one minute to another. ?
katrina.balanchuk Posted September 12, 2022 Author Posted September 12, 2022 Just treid again to change the size in the .ini to 1920x1080 no luck

It will default to lower specs. Go to Steam, find your Library and click on FO4. Push play and it will give you a menu. Go to whatever option gives you access to resolution and screen size options. You should be able to sort out your problems in there including screen size and graphics choices. 2
