wickedwhims - fatal error files mismatch

Recommended Posts

so today i opened the game after troubleshooting feverishly trying to get my game to stop running like total shit (that's a whole other can of worms, don't worry about it) only to see that i have a NEW problem in the form of "Fatal Error - Files Mismatch" which appears when i first launch my game. it wasn't happening yesterday, but not it suddenly is. i installed some new script mods that are completely unrelated to wickedwhims (trendi bandaid, ui cheats extension, walk in style, fashion authority, choose your classmates) so i'm incredibly confused.

also, i already uninstalled and reinstalled wickedwhims. i did it after i installed those mods i mentioned too, but still the issue persists. does anyone have any idea what's going on and how to fix this?

Do you use some cloud sync service like OneDrive to backup your Documents folder? These tend to interfere with mods, rolling back files to previous versions or preventing access to directories like the one for saved games. Antivirus software also likes to mess up stuff related to mods, although files usually just get deleted instantly in that case.

Another possible reason could be another version of WW lingering around somewhere else in your Mods folder. Not sure how the game handles file conflicts for scripts (or if it does so at all), but .package files can override each other. Depending on the structure of your Mods folder (sub-folders and everything) and changes that might have happened during your troubleshooting, the order in which those files are read might have changed, leading to this error as a result. If you have downloaded Sims that come with all of the required CC stuff bundled up in one big .package file (dunno if this is still a thing), a creator also might have accidentally merged their WW files with all the other ones.

Some more general advice, if I may: Since your game already runs like shit, why not give it a fresh start? I also had my game in a pretty much unplayable state once and after I went back to square one regarding mods, everything worked like a charm again and continues to do so (despite the Mods folder having doubled in size meanwhile).

Move the contents of your Mods folder to some other location on your hard drive and only leave "Resource.cfg" in there. Then get the latest versions of all your favourite script mods like WW and MCCC (maybe move your "mc_settings.cfg" back, so you don't have to go over everything again), each in their own sub-folder, and remember to delete "localthumbcache.package" (found in "Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4"). You can run the game to check for performance issues and the likes at any time, but don't save (you'll lose all information regarding mods and CC currently not present) and remember to delete "localthumbcache" again afterwards.

All your CC like clothes and furniture items can go back into your Mods folder again, but you might want to check for duplicates and create some sub-folders in order to keep all that stuff organized, if you haven't already done so.

If done right (read: don't rush things, double-check pretty much everything), this'll sort out all issues with your mods and give you a big advantage for the next time something goes wrong (because you'll know your Mods folder inside out and you won't have to work with all those individual files).

i don't use any cloud sync stuff, i actually had no idea that that was even a thing you could do. and no there's no other version of WW in my mods folder, i made sure there was only one version of it. i did get an error saying there were two versions before (i forgot to remove the vortex-attached versions) but i had already removed it before i took these screenshots. i also haven't downloaded any sims, i make all my own sims :)

i actually just reinstalled the game too, but the issue happened even after reinstalling. what you would consider running like shit is probably different from what i'm thinking since the framerates are a stable 60, it's just i'm unable to save my game (i even uninstalled high school years, still can't save my game) and when i cycle through speeds in live mode they don't register right away like they're supposed to, and sims aren't doing their actions when i tell them to and stand around for like 10 seconds doing nothing before finally doing them. idk if it's cuz i'm playing on a big lot with a huge castle in it but since it's not happening to anyone else who plays on this lot to my knowledge i can't say that that's the reason why it's happening. also, i noticed that my wickedwhims tuning file also says it was modified today which i don't know how that's possible since i didn't touch it.

also worth mentioning that i literally installed the game a few days ago before reinstalling this morning so all mods i have are their current versions. everything is up-to-date. i also already have everything in subfolders and deleted the cache files that are safe to delete. don't worry, i've played sims before haha :P since i already did all of this, it hasn't helped at all

I pretty much had that and some occasional framerate drops on top. Especially annoying with vampire Sims that suddenly become addicted to water and decide to grab another glass every five minutes.

This is interesting. Do you have an idea when exactly the modification happened (e.g. right after you launched the game)? If the timestamps for the tuning and script files don't match, this is probably the reason for your error message.

My first guess would be your AV, as some of these programs actually offer functions to "clean" files that throw a positive. Maybe the next evolutionary step has happened and now these are run autonomously on suspicious files, just like the deletion/quarantine functions. Whitelisting your TS4 folder within Documents usually prevents stuff like that.

im glad to know that i'm not the only person that happens to at least T_T it's really frustrating, tho it only seems to happen on the 64x64 lot i play on thankfully but it sucks cuz i really want to play on it :(

as for the tuning file, the modification happened after i launched the game somehow. i reinstalled wickedwhims again and it seems to be fine now thankfully but still really weird that it happened in the first place. the only thing i can think of that caused it was me installing some script mods after installing and playing with wickedwhims?? i do have my sims 4 folder set to be untouched in my antivirus so it couldn't be that i don't think. i just installed some custom career mods and i'm about to open the game to continue playing so if the file updates again after launching the game i'll know for sure whether or not it was because i installed script mods after playing with wickedwhims

That really is weird, but I'm glad that you seem to have it sorted out. If you happen to find the cause, please let me know - I'm really curious about this while thing and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on my Mods folder during the next few days ?
