Should i download the AE Update for Special Edition?

Hello,

I have been playing Skyrim LE for many years and decided to try Special Edition too.

I had downloaded Special Edition on Steam before bethesda rolled out the Anniversary Edition patch, and thus have not yet installed the update.

Should i launch SSE through SKSE without downloading the AE patch for the best compatibility with Loverslab SE mods, or is it now safe to download the AE update before playing the game?

(I have not purchased the Anniversary Edition DLC, i am only referring to the forced patch download that Bethesda rolled out for Special Edition alongside the release of AE)

Best regards!

Check the mods you have installed at the moment. Specially the ones with a dll file. These must have a compatible version for the latest SkyrimSE.exe and SKSE for AE. Once you're 100% sure all the mods you're using support these latest versions you can update the game, update your SKSE and update all your mods.

If you haven't been active modding SE during these last months is very likely that you'll gain next to nothing by updating, all the mods you were using will keep working without the AE update, most of the mods that are being released even today have a version for SE that doesn't require the new update. The only reason I see to update would be if a mod you want to use is available only for AE or if you want to play with the 4 free CC things they give you (and even then you can update, get the CC files and downgrade...).

Thank you for the reply. I am currently still playing Legendary Edition so i haven't installed any mods in Special Edition yet. I don't plan to buy the Anniversary Edition DLC in the foreseeable future but was wondering if i should keep Special Edition without the free Bethesda Patch or if i should install the patch and start installing mods on it for new playthroughs.
