I use the "markfordelete" command in console mode BUT!!! be very careful that you are selecting the exact object you want to delete. I accidently deleted my follower because she was standing too close to me. Once you have deleted the buildings you have to go in and delete any fixtures or rubble, otherwise you will not be able to build on the area. Most of the object you delete will only disappear when you leave the area and then return.
