First attempt at modding.

After Seeing the work Gameplayer Does for IKAROS, I decided to try a mod. Going on advice, I decided to start simple. A mod that was done in Atomic Beauty already. Just needs an IKAROS conversion. So I go in to Creation kit and to all the pieces I added on the appropriate Keywords.

Done.

So Next I go into Bodyslide so I can add on the IKAROS reference body. I load up the outfit first then choose the Ikaros_3BBB body But After I choose the body, it gets weird.

So I thought I try loading a reference first. But It will not let me load the entire body. I seem to be a bit stuck. Is there a file location that lets me load the entire IKAROS body to use for this?

Edited to Make the pic not as obnoxious.

You could import the nif (of the body) then make it a reference in BS, by right-clicking on it.

I'm not completely familiar with the Atomic Beauty bones other than remembering I read long ago that it used a different approach with bones than CBBE used back then. I do know the sliders and default shape of Atomic Beauty isn't remotely like CBBE. And I think Ikaros uses the CBBE sliders and shape by default. What this means is if you're starting with Atomic Beauty shape and bones and sliders you're going to need a conversion reference to get it from one to the other. If that doesn't exist, then you'll need to start with your target body and manually convert the outfit pieces to your destination, converting bones, shape and sliders the hard way.

I use Fusion girl and not CBBE 3BBB body, so I am not familiar with that form of CBBE, but my understanding is that it's CBBE shape and sliders but with different bones.

If you're trying to get an Atomic Beauty outfit converted to CBBE without a conversion reference body, you're definitely doing it the hard way.

I think you should reconsider your approach.

The body is the same, Just adding a race and wanting to have it work in outfit studio is the next bit. That is unless all I needed to do was add the race data?

If the body really is the same, then yes the race data change is all that's needed.

The RaceData controls who can equip something.

The Outfit Studio project is for changes to body shape, sliders or bones.

Also, if the skin is wrong in the outfit, that's not really an outfit studio issue as BodySlide doesn't really control what type of skin something has. The Armor Addon record controls the skin, either allowing default skin or manually setting it to something non-default.

Specifically, the "Additional Races" records control who can equip something, and the "NAM0" through "NAM3" records control the textures (if set). If NAM0 through NAM3 are not set, then the default texture will be what the wearer's race uses.

So, After Adding "ma_IKAROS_Material" and "ap_armor_IKAROS_Skin" tags in Creation Kit I went into FO4edit to add a race addon to the armor. But for some reason it does not have it in the drop down and I am getting an error. What did I miss?

I think I understand what I need to do- To make the Armor Addon  with the race in Creation Kit I first need to make the outfit in Bodyslide so the game knows what it looks like!

At least that is what it looks like to me. But hey, progress! I learned to import the Body! (any advice is always welcomed!)

I'm sorry I don't know how to use Creation Kit, so I can't give tips on using that. I use FO4Edit.

However, please be aware that what you see with regard to skin textures in BodySlide/OutfitStudio is not what you get in game if the armor addon record specifies a skin texture.

Armor Addon records can override BodySlide.

Oh, So FO4edit is a safer utility than the creation kit? Also when exporting my project to nif, do I need to include the reference shape?

As an Aside, I have so much respect for the mod makers now that I am learning by doing.

Alright, What am I doing wrong? I imported the body then began adjust the material as I went down and Maxed out the slider? I think I might need to look up how to adjust physics and stuff?

Hi, Rifleman2c :) With regard to Creation Kit vs FO4Edit, I don't think one is actually better than the other. They're different.

If you work with changing cells or making new lands or creating lip sync files or the like, Creation Kit is much better than FO4Edit. However, in my opinion, when it comes to making outfits, weapons, NPCs and the like, I find FO4Edit much, much easier to use--so much easier I uninstalled creation kit years ago and exclusively use FO4Edit. But I do not presume to state that one is better than the other. Always use what's easier for you to use.

As for the picture above, I can't tell what I'm seeing. I have no clue what that image is. There appear to be missing zap sliders, and it looks like at least some of the outfit is missing bones, but as I don't know what the image is and where the picture is taken I honestly don't know. I don't even understand the question as I am missing a lot of context. I'm sorry :)

Well, the right picture was the result of what I added to the VTS AB conversion with the Ikaros parts and conforming the body to sliders and deleting the Atomic Beauty body. So I opened it into outfit studio when I got the mess on the left.  I am guessing conversion is different when you got bits with physics added.

Hi, Rifleman2c. For your information, the statement of bits with physics doesn't explain the problem (not that you can know that, as you mentioned you're new to this).

There are many ways to add physics to a body or outfit, and some of them don't necessarily involve outfit studio at all.

For instance, an outfit with a reasonably modern Fusion Girl body already has all the bones it needs for physics. The physics aren't added in outfit studio at all if the body is already FG and are handled by ocbp.ini and OCBPCollisionConfig.txt configurations.

In the old days to add physics you had to add cloth physics for the breasts, but to my knowledge that is rarely used anymore as OCBPC replaced that model.

However, as I neither use Atomic Beauty nor use CBBE (including variations of CBBE) I honestly don't know what method those use to include physics.

But I mention this so that you know if you have a specific issue trying to do something, the more information you can provide the more chance you can find someone who knows what you need and can help.

I do know that if the picture on the left was BodySlide (it didn't look like Outfit Studio) it really looked like there were missing bones. And if the picture on the right was outfit studio, it looks like there weren't enough vertices for the extreme preset you were trying to use. Insufficient vertices is one of the most common causes of clipping with extreme bodyslide presets.

post script: Also, as it seems like you're trying to use very specialized bodies which few people here use, you might want to see if you can find either an atomic beauty, an ikaros or a CBBE discord server where you're more likely to find people familiar with what you're trying to do. I'm guessing most people on Loverslab are likely to use FusionGirl rather than CBBE, for instance, and even fewer would use Atomic Beauty or Ikaros as main body types.
