Possible Solution 6: Update you Graphic Card Drivers, for NVidia Graphic Cards, try to download and install the NVidia 285.62 Driver Version and for AMD (ATI) Graphic Cards, try download and installing the AMD Catalyst 11.10. Possible Solution 7: After the updating the graphic cards and didn’t solve the issue then try to rollback your video card by downloading an earlier version of your video card’s current driver. Possible Solution 8: If you have a multi-core processor, try disabling them, it might do the trick! Possible Solution 9: Last Ditch Solution: Update your BIOS (for advanced users only! If this is your first time doing this, be sure to read your motherboard documentation to avoid bricking your PC so try it at your own Risk!!!) Problem 2: The Elder Scroll V Skyrim Crash to Desktop (CTD) and Blackscreen Fix Possible Solution 1: Navigate to: 32bit – C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\The Elder Scroll V Skyrim.exe 64bit – C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Elder Scroll V Skyrim.exe Right click on The Elder Scroll V Skyrim.exe and select “Run as Administrator”. Mashi Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/11/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweaks-improve-graphics-disable-vsync-change-fov-and-more/ via bluesnews.com Skyrim’s been out for less than a day, but fans have already gone through the .ini files looking for useful tweaks and fixes to the most common crashes and UI annoyances. We’ve compiled a selection of tweaks below from the Skyrim tweak thread on Reddit, the Skyrim forums and Tweak Guides These fixes will let you disable mouse smoothing, customise your field of view, disable Vsync and correct a problem that causes crashes to desktop from the main menu screen just after you start the game. There are also a few .ini tweaks that make Skyrim look better. Disable mouse smoothing Go to your Steam Directory, then steamapps, common, skyrim and select Skyrim again. Create a backup of the SkyrimPrefs.ini file. Open the file, then scroll down to where it says [Controls] and find bMouseAcceleration=1. Change to bMouseAcceleration=0. Save, exit, and play This fix and the two below are from Skyrim Reddit, and are credited to “Dead man posting” on the Something Awful Forums. Change field of view Head to My Documents, select My Games, select Skyrim and then Skyrim again, then create a backup of the skyrim.ini file. Scroll down to [General] in the file and add fdefaultfov=XX (where XX is the field of view you want). Then save and exit. Fix common crash to desktop problem Access the Sound menu from the Control panel. In the playback tab, right click on speakers and select properties. Select the advanced tab on the new screen and select 24 bit, 44100Hz (Studio Quality) from the drop down menu. This fixed crashes for Owen last night. Disable Vsync Access the SkyrimPrefs.ini again and add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section. This can improve a sluggish framerate and eliminate instances of mouse lag. Thanks to Tweak Guides for this one. Graphical tweaks Curate on the Bethesda forums has highlighted a number of interesting variables in the SkyrimPrefs.ini file. Change the digit at the end of each line to 1 to turn the feature on, 0 to turn it off. Don’t forget to create a backup of the SkyrimPrefs.ini file just in case. Interesting variables are as follows, in order of appearance in the .ini and showing their default settings. bDoDepthOfField=1 bTreesReceiveShadows=0 bDrawLandShadows=0 bShowFloatingQuestMarkers=1 bShowQuestMarkers=1 bShowCompass=1 bMouseAcceleration=1 fAutosaveEveryXMins=15.0000 Redditor Ryz also suggests changing iWaterReflectHeight=512 and iWaterReflectWidth=512 to 1024 and adding the following text to the SkyrimPrefs.ini to improve the quality of water reflections. bUseWaterReflectionBlur=1 bReflectExplosions=1 iWaterBlurAmount=4 bAutoWaterSilhouetteReflections=0 bForceHighDetailReflections=1 per han's request and original thread NUKED! Fair warning there seems to be a bug at least on my 560 with the new 285.79's My GPU utilization is stuck at 100% until I reboot, and as soon as I use something that uses 3d acceleration it pegs it again. I recommend NOT using the 285.79 drivers unless there's good cause. HardOCP info thread, including best card choices and drivers Best driver fit: Nvidia: 285.79 beta's ATI: 11.10 Cats and 11.9 CAP4 See REF on HDCP for stats. Ultra high with tweaks in this thread on the 285.79's and FXAA. 8AA/16AF with vsync disabled. ~84fps.
LordJerle Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Mine's minimizing when I first start up, but it happens around the time Steam injects the community crap, so I'm thinking it's the same reason as Oblivion does it with X-fire. Just alt tab back in twice. One time to go to the game, another time to actually get in game. First time goes to a black screen, second time actually opens the game.
Mashi Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 You'll probably need the steam community stuff later for the script extender, so you could disable it for now. But if it's minimizing like that, you've got another problem trying to run an overlay.
D_KNIGHT_PEN Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I keep getting this weird visual glitch when my game starts up. It looks almost like skeleton issues do in oblivion but with everything else. i can actually see the game visuals running normally in parts of my screen but everything else looks like its all trying to render in one point.
HanPL Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 I have similar problem from time to time. Mostly near source of light/fire/water. Something like my character shadow appear/render near that places. not really a major bug but really annoying
D_KNIGHT_PEN Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 My problems isn't like that. when i start the game i can't even see my characters face when trying to create my character because the glitch causes these weird multicolored triangles to appear all pointing at the center of my screen.
HanPL Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 What graphic card you have ? If ATI then it's normal that you get tons of glitches. If Nvidia try downloading latest graphic card drivers.
D_KNIGHT_PEN Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Mobile Intel® 965 express chipset is my graphics card. One of those integrated into laptops.
Endiness Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Just updated to 285.79, but results are the same. There are a few spots with slowdowns to the mid 40s.
sora3 Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 There are a couple of things I've noticed on my system so here goes. Problem 1 - the sound is too quiet, I need to bump up the master volume very high! Solution - Head into your Sound category in the Control Panel. In the properties menu of your speakers, go to Enhancements and check the Loudness Equilization option. It worked for me. Problem 2 - At some point, the game crashes for no inexplicable reason. Possible solution - turn off all Autosave options, including the Autosave at character wait. I think the engine is still a bit iffy on autosave so save often manually! And always, update every driver to the latest one!

Mashi Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Just so you know, if your previous save is corrupt, it always makes a backup-save before overwriting. A very good thing imo.
hoast Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Probelem - Esbern no voice/cant complete the quest "season unending" Solution - Finde the file calle "Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa open it with oblivion mod manage and unpack it into the skyrim data folde.
Mordyn Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Problem: Physic is weird in the game --> for example if I open a door and there are nearby objects, they fly over the air! Solution: You probably disabled vsync in ini file... reactivate it. It seems physic in the game is dependent on fps, and if you have a fast computer (let's say something making the game running as fast as 100 fps), things begin to fly everywhere... vsync, by synchronizing fps with the screen frequency (often 60Hz) "hides" the problem. And, this is the reason why Bethesda didn't make the option available ingame... So, disabling vsync in any fast computer is NOT recommended (or you'll have to use fps limiter mods to solve the problem) Hope it helps. credit to http://anonym.to/http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1260165-physics-is-affected-by-framerate/
Mordyn Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Problem: This game is killing my fps, even I have a high-end gpu! // I want to do some optimizations, so what can I downgrade in order to upgrade everything else? In a word, what is a big fps hitter in the game? Solution: It seems that shadows are calculated by cpu, and not gpu, hence a big fps hit (basically, cpu is struggling to do something gpu could have done easily). So, turning shadow quality to low will give you a big fps boost, without that much of quality loss.
Ryanhabs Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Y'all will probably hate me for this but after about 5 hours of play on ultra settings, I have had 0 problems so far. Only 5 hours though as I'm still trying to grind my way to rank 1 in Gundam 3 to unlock something.
threeddd33 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I had to get a new vid card to play, couldn't even get through the intro movie. Does anyone know or have a Radeon HD 6850 or something similar to know if it'll work on this game fairly well?
Mouse Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Should, since it runs very well with Ati Radeon HD 5650
threeddd33 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Should' date=' since it runs very well with Ati Radeon HD 5650 [/quote'] Thanks a ton. Didn't want to get it here and be stuck with slo-mo intro again. It took me a half hour just to get to the beheading scene with my GT100.
Ryanhabs Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Okay, so I came across my first issue with the game so far. On the quest, "the cursed tribe" a portion of the cave you have to pass through to get to the giant you need to kill is just flat out missing. A sort of fall through the world thing. Just interested if anyone else has seen the same thing or had a different experience with that quest.
fluffmuffly Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 HOLD IT! When the steam forums got hacked, there was one person who saved everyone alot of time and money about the launching crash at startup. Set your sound to cd quality not studio quality. It saved me having to get a new laptop and i didn't even need to update my ati graphics card which is up 11.5b patch.
Mouse Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Sometimes Blood Dragons glitch and you do not get soul from them. Scales and bones yes, but no soul to absorb. If you get cheated of a soul this way, you can use console to rectify the matter: player.setav dragonsouls 1

Also, that crash has to do with the actual game sounds. If changing your Playback device audio quality doesn't work, you'll probably have to get better drivers for your sound card. There's also a nasty bug that a lot of people are having where the game will black screen CTD, but also kill the graphics drivers (or bug em, not sure), and a hard reset will be required - happens on Vista, XP, even 7, too... nobody really knows how to fix it.
