Grecia300 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) Title. I recently got a new pc, and its an nvidia while my old one was AMD. Dont know if that matters. I reinstalled windows, skyrim, and the CK multiple times. Both the CK and Skyrim are on an external hard drive. I have all the usual recommended settings for the CK backed up in a folder, to be restored at a later time. I'm also running the CK as admin already. It doesnt seem to matter where I start it from : be it MO, steam interface, or directly from file explorer. Crashes after about 1 or 2 seconds of hangtime. If I run it in compatibility mode it gives me an error code 0xc000001d, regardless of which compatibility mode I choose. It use to work perfectly back on the old pc, and even shortly after moving over to the new one. Just isnt working now for whatever reason. If im forgetting some info, lemme know. Forgoing the usual modlist inclusion, cus obviously its not going to cause this. I really need some help here, I'm completely clueless whats goin on here. This makes no sense to me. Hex Bolt Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) I had experienced that problem in the past. I haven't had it after I began following these steps. There may be an easier way, but this has worked reliably. Copy all files to go into the BSA into a temporary folder named Data, such as \Temp\Data. If updating an existing BSA, extract that BSA into temp\data but do NOT place the BSA in that folder. Run Archive.exe in the Skyrim folder from the file manager. Be sure that recurse directories is checked, then Edit -> Add Directory -> \Temp\Data. Check compress, Retain Directory Names, and Retain File Names. Root Dir should be Data. File -> Save. Edit: Irrelevant. Misunderstood the question. Edited July 19, 2022 by HexBolt8

Ok so just to clear up confusion, what files should I be copying into the temporary folder? All my mods, I assume? Q _ Q I didnt think this had anything to do with BSA's, as I didnt even get to that part yet before it crashed.

I might have misunderstood your question. The topic refers to initializing archives, so I thought you were attempting to build a BSA archive. The archive tool has been known to crash "after about 1 or 2 seconds of hangtime". If that's not what you're doing, my response was off point and, unfortunately, not relevant to the problem you're having.

When you open up the CK, at the bottom of the window, it says Initializing Archives after a second or 2 then ctd's. Thats what I was talking about. I never messed with the archive tool before in my life lol

Is the SkyrimEditor.ini in the Skyrim directory? The CreationKit.exe should also be there. In the ini there is the [Archive] section. These are the standard archives. Even if, for example, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa does not exist for me, it must be entered there.
