[Portable] Make Stellaris Portable.

Hi.

This is the results I've figured out.

Dependent of which version of Stellaris you use as the base version...

If you use the Steam version, you can have the Game and use mods too.

If you use the GOG version, then you can have both game and all DLC, but no mods. :(

The way you can accomplish these above is that you:

in this case the folder which we want to store Savedata, mods etc, would be called "SaveData".

1. Make a textfile in the gamefolder named userdir (which mean that the whole file would be (userdir.txt), in wthich you would wtite just SaveData. Nothing else.

2. go inte the file launcher-settings.json and change the value of gamedatapath (thats normaly set to "%USER_DOCUMENTS%/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris" ) to /SaveData

That's all you would have to do to get the results i mentioned above.

If you after reading the above is thinking that "but wait. Setellaris is supposed to be DRM-free?

At least according to: https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games#Paradox_Development_Studio_games

The answer i can think of is that:

1. Stellaris itself is DRM-free, but not the DLC's

2. DRM free is not the same as Portable, that's why they get around that by saying... Hey, you can run this without Steam on THIS computer which you've also used steam to install, but you don't need Steam to run it, therefore we can call it DRM free.

There is one way that i know of to get Stellaris Portable with both Base game and DLC and mods enabled (meaning all works as it should, but it needs testing too verify that it works in online multiplayer.

That way is to use: https://gitlab.com/Mr_Goldberg/goldberg_emulator

to enable DLC on a portable installation. This however is to use Steam games over LAN, not online. But if Steam is DRM free, then steam-API should not be used anyway and therefore it should not be any problem with that.

If you wonder about Legality...

I can say that:

This game is supposed to be DRM free. So if you use a software that changes some DRM that should not be there in the first place. that should not be illegal.

About the DLC's. You would need the files to be able to play the DLC's (and activate them in the launcher. So if you don't own the DLC's, you wouldn't be able to download the files to be able to use them and by that logic, you can not use this to unlock some parts of the game that you do not already own.

That's all i can think of.

Good luck and i hope it works for everyone.
